Just thought I would see what the opinions are about the state of the playoff teams at this point.

Sure looking like the Yanks in the AL and the Philly's in the NL as the favorites to get to he WS.

Red Sox and Braves on the verge of collapse. I think both still make it though. Barely.

I don't think the Yankees will get there. I think either Detroit or Rangers will knock them off.

I honestly don't see any of the teams challenging the Phillies. Unless they play like the Sox are right I'd say the get to the World Series.

    WS: Phillies vs. Detroit

    Phillies win.

The phillies are clearly the best built postseason team.

But the baseball playoffs over the last decade have proven to be a complete crapshoot, several very mediocre teams have made deep playoff runs, a few even won it all.

Phillies and Yankees are my guess

I wouldn't be against going to a 9 game series in all 3 rounds, with one day off. Replicate the regular season as best you can.

At the very least make the fist round a full seven, they play a marathon season and suddenly want to sprint in the first round, it makes no sense.

With the SF Giants eliminated from playoff contention on Sat, MLB has gone 11 straight years without a repeat World Series winner.

They did 9 games series from 1919-1921. I'd rather not see that. All playoff teams having a legitimate shot at winning is exactly how it should be.

Well Cards pulled the same crap Boston and Atlanta are pulling now and won the title in 06. I'd love to see Tampa sneak in with that rotation but just don't see them having enough time.

Just two days ago, I thought Atlanta and Boston were a safe bet for the wildcards. Now I am not so sure.

    AL

    Boston------88/70
    Tampa Bay-88/71
    LA Angels---86/73

As of the time of this post, the 2nd Boston/NY game is just starting. If Boston loses again, they will be tied with the Rays.

The Rays go on to play the Yanks, and Boston plays Baltimore.

    NL

    Atlanta- -89/70
    St. Louis-88/71

Atlanta goes on to play the Phillies and St Louis plays Houston. Things not looking too swell for Atlanta. And the Stros could play a pivotal roll in deciding whether the Cards advance.

Anyone in Atlanta thinking twice about not having gone full out for Pence right now?

If Atlanta and St. Louis end the season tied, what decides who advances?

WOW...so the Rays pulled even with the Sox and if the Cards come back tonight they will do the same.

Last day of the season and both WC races could be tied...two sudden death playoff games would be an awesome Thursday night.

Ha, hard to believe both Boston and Atlanta on the verge of collapsing.

Gallardo to start game 1 of NLDS

So in the NL, Milwaukee's pretty much secured the 2nd best record with Arizona about to lose to the Dodgers in extras (EDIT: Spoke too soon, lol). On paper, they're the only team in the NL that looks to have a chance against the Phils, IMO. Gallardo/Greinke/Marcum/Wolf is a solid rotation. Not as good as Philly's, but good enough to make things interesting (and you never know what might happen in the postseason).

In the AL, in addition to the last WC spot being up for grabs, Detroit and Texas are still fighting for the 2nd best record. Texas is a game up, but if they lose tomorrow and Detroit wins, the Tigers own the tiebreaker.

It sounds like the Yankees are going to treat tomorrow like a Spring Training game.

Anybody remember this? Who knew that the Cardinals would be the ones that this call would hurt most. I just thought about it when I noticed Jerry Meals is the 1st base umpire in the Braves game right now.
