i guess i've been so obssessed with our own bullpen issues that i hadn't taken the time to notice that STL has their own problems - pissringhauser's now blown 8 saves this year? 8?! wow. anywho, the reds and cardinals are carbon copies of each other: mashers with no pitching; they're both DOA as their lack of pitching will be exposed down the stretch. meanwhile, as i've said it recently - huff has been smashing the baseball for awhile now, he just hasn't found many holes. he found them last night. he's about to go a beltran, circa 2004 playoffs-like run. with berkman and luke scottwalker also locked in, this is suddenly a very dangerous line-up that is going to get to chew on some weak-ass pitching this month. they needed a 7-2 homestand; they may go 9-0 and then they follow that with 7 against the richie cunninghams & three more with the johnny depps. a 22+-win month is very possible. which means we need to start focusing our attention on the division title. six back with 9 games left against the commies and the cards; easy pickings. and that's huge because we can then avoid a first-round match-up with the mets. yes, i'm breaking down playoff match-ups with us 3 games under .500. i want the mets in a 7-game series after they've had to pitch glavine and pedro twice each to win their first round series. at that point, they're vulnerable. and i'll take my chances with whatever sissy team emerges from the west in round 1. btw, when was the last time MLB had a repeat league champion? the 2005-2006 astros, i know about - but before them?
First things first... Get to .500 Catch and pass the Reds Catch and pass the Cardinals Please don't jinx them by even thinking about playoff matchups when they're still under .500. If they don't make it, I will blame you personally.
The Johnny Depps is easy-the Pirates. I'm not positive about the Richie Cunninghams even though I'm guessing that he's referring to the Brewers since we play them seven times and Happy Days was set in Wisconsin.
ric -- i hear ya. remember last year when SOME of us were saying it was wide open...(though many were saying there's no way the 'stros could beat the Cards)....it's even more wide open this season. just get in and i like our chances with this pitching staff. the cards can be had in the regular season.
You should know better than that. Baseball is all about what the Baseball Gods let you do. If you start talking about playoff matchups when you're not even over .500, the Gods can get angry. When they get angry, Lance Berkman's left arm falls off. Roy Oswalt's tractor explodes. Don't f*** with the Baseball Gods.
I have a feeling Glavine and maybe Pedro will be a little broken down by the time the NLCS begins...If we can get them then, it looks like we could be okay.
watching Cold Pizza right now and after the break, they want to talk about why the Astros are the wild card favorites...nice!
As for the playoffs, we have some excellent pitching for the post season. We just need to get to .500 first. I'm kind of worried about LA. They've been playing some great ball lately, and have moved on up the WC standings. I'm worried when we beat up on the cards/reds and they beat up on each other LA will move on up.
LA's gonna win the West, me thinks. Easily the best team out there, talent-wise. Root for the Dojers to beat the crap out of San Diego, AZ & Colorado. And let those 3 beat up on each other.
Basically said that we are back in contention because of: Strong pitching...our bats are coming together, Ensberg coming back...Hirsh is going to have an impact...Lidge's arm is getting strong again. They made it seem like they would have a big segment on it, but it was more like 30 seconds worth of info.
I for one am definitely waiting with bated breath to know what world-renowned sports geniui Woody Paige & Skippy Bayless have to say about the Stros.
You can be 1/2 that age and easily not have paid attention to happy days (except the song--that stays in your head like no one's business..)
