Utah is making them, Rockets are not. Heres what I propose: 1. McGrady guards Deron Williams. We stop Deron Williams, Utah becomes piles of stagnant crap. 2. Setup Yao so he can take some shots from the free throw area. He's making 86% from the free throwline. Even though these are not free throws I believe he can at least 65% of em. 3. Have McGrady post up more and take it to the rim. He's either going to score or get to the line. Feel free to add to the list.
You're wasting your time. Assistant coach Gundy will keep saying "You need more intensity and energy. Play harder and harder". That's all we keep hearing.
exactly. if something isnt working, he just chalks it up to lack of effort. he hasnt made any adjustments thus far in this series, just like in 05 against the mavs.
ok number 2 is not reasonable, but number 3 makes sense since we having such a hard time getting TMAC free on the perimeter. And if TMAC is doubled teamed downlow he's gots big Yao for a easy layup/dunk since he's not going to be doubled team. Yao's just needs to get ready for some quick passes.
We can let Tracy and Vspan drive and setup a couple of shoots for Yao, if you do everything predictable, you will definitely lose.
Vspan anybody? Just kidding. Tmac just needs to be a leader, not dominate, not score 40+ points, he needs to lead.
I don't think there's anything that can be done - it's not the coaching - we're just getting out played.
Posted in another thread: I'd like to see this lineup get a little run: Alston/Span Tracy Snyder Shane Yao I mean, why does JVG think that only Hayes can guard Okur? Okur isn't physical, doesn't post up, and Shane is actually TALLER than Chuck! I guess that would just be too many offensive options for JVG to deal with. (btw, I realize we tried this lineup the 1st game of the season, but we had Shane on Boozer then)
There is, when McGrady is double teamed everytime and we can't a easy score even though we got the biggest dude downlow an adjustment needs to be made.
Here are some of the adjustments I would suggest. 1. Stop running the pick and roll for McGrady so often, let him operate one on one and spread the floor. By running the pick and roll the Jazz are trapping Tmac and generally speaking the guy the Rockets use as the picker/roller is not a threat to score and the Jazz ignore him, rendering the play moot. 2. Overplay Deron's right hand, force him back to his weak hand, and quit going under picks.....trap him or at least show hard on the high side to stop his penetration. 3. Compete harder -especially Tmac. It seems like he was happy up 2-0 and took the last couple of games off intensity wise. The guy is blessed with all the skills in the world but the competitiveness of a turnip. 4. Mix up the defensive rotations some, the Jazz are comfortable with what the Rockets are running, mix it up some....trap the ball handler some, mix in a bit of zone, and do some more switching on picks and rolls. 5. Don't panic - The team still has homecourt, but the role players had better start shooting, because right now the Jazz are packing the paint around Yao and doubling Tmac and ignoring everyone else....... I still believe, but am really saddened by the team's lack of effort, especially Tmac....whenever he does something good he always says " I " like, "I imposed my will on the game" but when he comes out dogging it he says "We need to match their intensity" etc. Well, tonight the only one I saw dogging it out there was Tmac....and the rest of the team looks to him as a leader, if he doesn't play hard, what do you think the role players are going to do. This team is DESPERATE to be lead.......Tmac this is your time.....don't blow it. DD
1. Worth a try in limited time. But TMac will use more energy on defending Deron 2. Will never happen under JVG. 3. Doesn't seem too effective so far. Fisher's strong body gave TMac a lot trouble to score from low post.
