I'm encouraged by Morey's comments that the Rockets may look to take advantage of the teams suffering financial and pull off some shark like moves. Who might we target? Teams that I suspect are financially desperate: Hornets: Chandler and Peja contracts are taking them deep into the red Sacramento: almost certainly on the move Memphis: obviously Pacers: I was stunned to hear them even mention the possibility of closing down operations Timberwolves: floundering since the KG trade, Jefferson aside Bobcats: always cheap, and they're losing Carolina's interest quick Nets: been losing and will continue losing money until they go to Brooklyn Bucks: #3 team in a small market that struggled before the economy went south Sixers: mainly because of the series of bad contracts they hand out Phoenix: Starver's cheap and ready to break up the squad he ruined Orlando: constantly in the red, but making the Conference Finals probably keeps them intact. Washington: tons of regrettable contracts for a team that is waffling. Golden State: seriously, how do they stay afloat? Teams that appear to want in on 2010 (either the stars or the leftovers): Detroit: (really?) Nets Knicks Miami Cleveland Chicago Atlanta Minnesota (ha ha) Portland OKC -->the key here is, just about all of these teams have ALREADY set themselves up to have plenty of cap space. The TRICK then, is that they may be uninterested in retaining their own FAs that come up this summer.
Michael Redd + Charlie V Baron Davis + Marcus C. Steve Nash + Amare or Shaq Joe Johnson + Filler Any of these 4 scenarios I'm ok with trading T-mac + fillers for.
I am down with Baron/Camby big time but also wouldnt mind Jefferson/Gadzuric as more likely then Redd/Charlie(Twitter) V.
*Baron Davis + Marcus Camby *Nash + Shaq Those 4 players are intriguing. But out of those two teams which will most likely to be "realistically" possible?
I don't expect any big name deals to be made. However if the Rockets were to go after somebody, it would probably be a former King Adelman coached. I'm thinking if possible someone like Gerald Wallace matched most likely with a bloated contract like Boris Diaw for McGrady. It wouldn't solve the dire need for a backup C, but the Rockets could maybe get Diop in the trade as well.
Man, we should've jumped on John Salmons and Brad Miller at the trade deadline but the Bulls beat us to the punch. Imagine what those two guys could've done for us in the playoffs!
That's realistically the best we can expect.Diaw a tall 4 who can pass,Diop and G.Wallace (McGrady replacement without the passing ability, good defender, decent scorer but without 3 point shooting ability).
How does this trade help resolve ANY of the issues we have at the moment? Gilbert hasn't shown anything in about 2 years that suggests that he will not only stay healthy, but that he will get back to superstar level. That's not even mentioning the fact that if Ron Artest's shot selection made us cringe, Arenas' is going to downright kill half the board. Then, if we plan on re-signing Artest, and keeping Shane Battier, where exactly does Caron Butler fit into our plans? Even if you're implying that we DON'T sign Artest, between him, Arenas, Brooks, and Yao, how are we going to spread around the ball enough for everyone to be efficient. And then, you're also relegating Battier to the bench which I think completely offsets any positive impact he has as a player. Battier's biggest qualities are efficiency and intangibles, and you don't really need either one out of a bench player.
Diaw is 6'8 and as more of an outside game than an inside one. He is an under 50% shooter for his career. I like him, he is a solid passer as noted, and shot 42% from three in his 59 games with Charlotte last year. But tall (for his position) he is not. With Charlotte he played nearly 38 mpg and grabbed only 6 rebounds. Not exactly the best post defender either. I think he could be additive to the team, but is a little repetitive in that, his ability to hit the three aside, we have 2 PF's who pretty much do what he does and are equally inept at defending taller, longer post players.
There is no way, i'm saying no way we get Nash & Amare or Shaq, right? For T-Mac +? The Suns aren't that stupid are they?
Edited. If Morey can get one of these through, then this season is really a beautiful one! Taking the Lakers to Game 7 and Morey doing a beautiful trade involving McGrady is a present before birthday!
That would've been huge! I'm sure we were after them...Miller is perfect for this system. Not to mention we would've had a real center. This should be an exciting offseason for trades. Surely Morey is at least going to dangle Tracy's contract around and see who bites. Might not get fair value for it though since he might not be able to contribute for a good part of the season.
