I am thinking that MAYBE we should have sat David Carr the 1st season

I would rather Tony banks get hit those 72 times
than our QB of the Future

    I dunno . . Carr seems Gun shy now .. . .
    [with good reason]

I know our offensive lines arn't that good, but Do you guys ever think maybe DAVID CARR just isn't that goood? for being a #1 pick. This is his 4th year and he's more closer to being a Matt Hasselbeck, Jake Plummer type.

    2004 Stats:

CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A LNG TD TD% INT INT% SACK YDS RAT
    Hasselbeck 279 474 3382 58.9 7.14 60 22 4.6 15 3.2 30 155 83.1
    J. Plummer 303 521 4089 58.2 7.85 85 27 5.2 20 3.8 15 90 84.5
    David Carr 285 466 3531 61.2 7.58 69 16 3.4 14 3.0 49 301 83.5

He just doesnt seem like he "has it" in him.

    it's possible you're right.

but that's carr after only 3 years. all with an expansion team. all with zero protection.

he had an awful game on sunday...but he hasn't been an awful QB in his 3 years.

and carr HAS BEEN awful; he was awful in the team's final 9 games last year. a good QB shouldn't regress as much as he has mid-way through their third year. i think the texans have ruined him.

I'm actually more concerned about his non-QB traits. I freaking hate players who don't give it all and him not jumping on the ball instead of looking to the officials for help on Sunday really irks me. As does his acting like we just won the Super Bowl after he scored the TD.

you're right. we're seeing regression. that's really odd.

by the way...i didn't read your article first!!! but it's very good! i knew david klingler, personally. you couldn't find a nicer guy. lives on a ranch in kentucky with his beautiful wife and kids, now, i believe. i always felt like his talent was wasted by all those hits...it changed him as a QB. i guess it would most people.

I dont know, David Carr seems to me to be borderline Jake Plummer-ish. He will be given all the oppurtunity in the world while showing brief flashes but never consistently improve. The verdict is still out on him. Neither Yay or Nay. Then again this may not be a good system for him. A QB is only as good as the system put in place. Look at Big Ben, I agree with Marc Colemans assessment. Pitts does a wonderful job putting him in a position to make plays. Coach Cowher does a wonderful job lighting a fire and making his guys play with a sense of urgency. My personal opinion is Carr will never be a Pro Bowl QB. I would love for him to prove me wrong though.

    Carr is a tough guy.

I don't doubt that he wants to win, even if he puts his body second. I do blaim the coaching staff for not planning better protection to begin with.

IMO, the best thing that ever happened to David Carr was getting drafted by an expansion team. Any other team and he'd probably already be out the door.

I work with one of David Klinglers best friends. He still lives in Houston, owns his own insurance company, or something to that effect. Haven't heard anything about a wife, just that he had a girlfriend. They play golf just about every week.

I almost played with David last week too, luckily he couldn't make it. Didn't want to embarrass myself in front of a 1st round bust. :)

I just talked with my friend, had a good laugh at the "living in kentucky" comment Max. He said David now has an ex wife. He's got an office somewhere off of I-10, not sure on the exact location.

wow..didn't realize that. it's been probably 10 years since i've seen him. i hope my comments didn't imply we were close buddies! :) we weren't. he is about 6 years older than me, i think. we worked together through a local ministry.

They did sign Tony Boselli and Ryan Young in the expansion draft so it's not like they didn't try...

Good article. I remember during one of the preseason games this year when the line was doing its usual ole' pass blocking. Carr was sacked on an important 3rd down play (as important as 3rd downs get during preseason). He got back up and immediately slammed the ball into the ground in frustration. The announcers first reaction was something stupid like, "It's okay to be frustrated, but you can't show up your guys like that. He shouldn't have done that." My reaction was, "WHAT?"

How can he not be showing it at this point. The guy would have to be a freaking robot to not react to the horse**** he has had to endure as a Texan, trying to survive behind the crappy line we keep running out in front of him. This is not to say I think Carr is a good QB, or could be a good QB...I don't know. And frankly, it's looking like we may never know. But I predict, by the end of the season, there will be at least one game where Carr has to leave due to injury, even if just for a half, and Ragone will manage to get in the game. He will look good, if not great, and then Houston will have its first, full fledged QB controversey. It will be interesting to see what happens next.

Fire Capers, trade Carr, lets go 0-16 this year, and draft Vince Young as the #1 pick.

Hire Jimmy Johnson too, and we'll be in the playoffs within 3 years.

    mmmmm-kay

I would agree with firing Caper's, but bringing in Johnson is not the solution this team needs. I like Vince Young, but I'm not giving up on Carr just yet.
