I know that when I watch a team like the Spurs play, they play a slower paced game. When the Rockets play this style of game, they lose against the much more athletic team. The Spurs have the Suns on the ropes, and yet we are down to the Jazz in a similar matchup. Is this because the Spurs' players are smarter than the Suns' players? Are the Spurs able to execute their plays perfectly, and the speed advantage is lost completely? When will Houston be able to play intelligent basketball again?
With a bone headed cave man known as Scola who likes to foul with the shot clock down to 5 and who flops in such a way that gives him no chance to get the call, I don't think "intelligent" can be ever used to describe our basketball team.. I guess the Spurs didn't lose that huge of an asset when they gave us this cave man.. BUT.. someone is gonna pop up and tell me that he's just a rookie.. yes, he's just a rookie, and Vspan was just a rookie, he just doesn't have the IQ required for a good basketball player.. he sees that he has 2 guys on him, but his brain is so damn slow that he fails to realize that the other guy playing D on him left his man, and that this man happens to be a wide-open Shane Battier in the corner.. but what does the passion assassin do? throws up a wild shot and screams at the top of his lungs in hopes of getting a foul called.. sad..
which could be never. same with tmac. can't use yao's excuse, for failing on the basic fundamental skills in basketball.
for one, the spurs have duncan, manu, and parker to take it to the suns. we have tmac, alston, and battier. i don't think smarts is what's getting it done. it's talent. and second, the spurs aren't even less athletic than the suns. parker and ginobili are carving up nash and shaq and the suns slow D. barbosa, amare, and bell are the only athletic people they have; shaq, nash, and hill slow them down.
I think RA mentioned that he wanted to implement his offense but the players are not "smart" enough to pick up...... We didn't execute many plays well IMO
Slow decision and be smart, where did you see the connection? Like realize what to do after the play ?
For athletes their decisions are ultimately carried out by their movements. Yao is definitely very slow in his movements.
Talent includes basket IQ, TP and MG played too smart for SUN to defend, more than half of their FG are open, always at the right spot at the right time and one step ahead of the defender.
I agree.. Scola has been horrible in this series and is a big disappointment. Manu isn't afraid of contact when he goes to the hoop but Scola is. Manu plays big when the stage is bright. Scola hasn't. It's not an Argentina thing. As for TMac, I've had enough. If we can give him away, then do it. I'll take less talent for more heart any day. JVG always talks about his basketball intelligence and IQ. I'm not seeing it. Intelligence is knowing your odds are better shooting 5 feet from the basket rather than 18 feet. Intelligence is knowing you are a horrible 3 pt shooter and you should eliminate that from your aresenal. Intelligence is not throwing impossible passes to Hayes, Scola and Landry in traffic when you've beat your man off the dribble and are 5 feet from the basket. Intelligence is working on your free throw shooting because you've become a disgrace at it. Intelligence is not saying idiotic things to the media making you look like a big coward.
I'm so sick of this... If all these other crappy role players play with so much heart and hustle so much why the heck is our most "heartless" player the leading rebounder. I just can't take it. Thats one of the biggest reasons we lose. Nobody's boxing out and we're losing all of these crucial boards. The only guys stepping up to grab them is Landry and tmac. I keep seeing Scola flying around like a rag doll and Hayes jumping too late. If one player leads you in scoring, assists, and rebounds everyone around him sucks. Morey and Les need to step up to the plate. I don't care if you trade tmac, yao, battier, turbo, the power dancers, just get this roster up to a respectable level.
Scola is a dumass, agreed. T-mac is not, he knows he can't drive to the hoop w/o being fouled over 100 times and keep his shoulder/knee/back intact.
