From today's Chinese newspaper, in order to let Yao Ming adapt American culture as soon as possible, his representatives have two plans for him.

Plan A: find an American graduate student for Ming. This person must be a Houston native and is learning Chinese. He will be Ming's friend and talk with Ming in English as possible as he can. He will introduce the native culture, food, custom, regulation and everything else to Ming, and tell Ming what he can do and what he cannot do.

or Plan B: find a "foster" American family for Ming and let Ming live as "an ordinary Americn people". Let him deal with the daily life by himself.

Can anyone of you guys be that "American graduate student" or "Foster" bother or sister of Ming?

I've got vaulted ceilings but all my doorways are average.. and I don't speak a lick of Chinese. I think he would do best with a Chinese-American Family that can show him how things are.

I'm very interested to see how this is going to work out!

    WindandSea,

Is that a reliable newspaper? Did they have an interview with Yao?

This is from "Southern Sports". They interviewed Eric Zhang and his professor. They have a set of plans to help Yao Ming to settle down in Houston, including these plan A and B. They said Yao Ming's English is better than the imagination of most people and he is a very independent kid. They hope to create an environment to help Ming to adapt American culture immediately.

From the report, they want to find an American family and create an "English-speaking" environnment for Ming.

I thought early reports had the Chinese against just that for fear of Yao's Americanization going too far?

I don't think "live with an American family"="Americanization".

I'm glad, but this attitude just seems opposite of what we heard in the beginning or were led to believe we would hear, perhaps. :)

These are the plans of Ming's representatives. They said they wanted Ming to be a "real professional player."

I suggest he should attend a church. It is a best and fast way to join American life.

Girlfriend or female secretry is also important.

Man only wants to talk with girls with interesting "bad" topics and intention. He will love English.

Damn! If that's true, it'd be really cool! I will be a graduate student this fall, but not in Houston. I can imagine what an experience it would be to live with a 7' 5" celebrity!

I think Barkley's words stimulated Ming and his men. They want Ming to study English ASAP. After half a year, Ming can go to see Barkley and say ".........." in English.

I think Eric Zhang is thinking like a graduate student :)

Whether any of these other things come to pass, the Rockets have some pretty solid plans in place.
