Thought it would be interesting to hear everyone's preparation/evacuation plans. I'll be leaving if it is on a direct course for Galveston - category 3 or above. I don't think my house will blow down or flood - I think neither of those is very likely. I just don't really want to sit through the storm and the power outage. I'd rather just hang somewhere else and come back when it is done. I'm hoping to re-locate my cats on Thursday either to boarding place up in Montgomery County or north of there (Conroe, Huntsville, etc - any suggestions?). If I can't find a place, my mom has a big house in Montgomery (northwest of Conroe) that should be fine for the storm, so all of us will go there for a couple days. If I can find a decent boarding place, I'll most likely go to Austin and stay with a friend. I'm taking my computers (have to for business), my music gear, business/financial records, camera equipment and some clothes for the trip. I'll also take pictures of the inside and outside of the house for insurance purposes and clean up my yard of debris. I'll also probably take down my redwood gates and put them in my office to avoid them blowing around and smacking up against my house. That should about do it. What are you guys doing?
I really don't know at this point. Our house has lots of windows, including big sliding glass windows in the living room and master bedroom. I don't really want to stay here if the storm hits, but we also have two dogs to take care of. My parents said we could come hang out with them, but they're down in Deer Park where I'm sure the storm would be worse. It would suck having to deal with no power for a few days no matter where I am. My in laws live up in Nebraska, so that would be quite a drive.
We're currently looking at lodging in Arkansas on Lake Catherine near Hot Springs. As a child we used to vacation there and I miss the Ozarks. A mini vacation and whatsuch, I guess. I will be taking pictures of the inside/outside of the casa but I don't plan on taking much for the trip. Clothes and other neccesary items, and just pray all the house holds up. I'm only leaving if it's a strong cat 3 or cat 4. If it's predicted to be a weak 3 or even a 2 by Friday morning I'm staying put. I'll have to be at the job as soon as possible to help you guys get your power back and will probably be working 7 days a week once the storm passes. That is teh suck.
Buying beer & ammunition. No - I'll be in Austin anyway for ACL Fest. Probably a very muddy, wet ACL Fest.
If it's Cat 3 I'm sticking. If it hits Cat 4, I'm out. I'll head to Little Rock to visit in-laws most likely, if it goes to 4. Bought water and other supplies tonight at the store. Planning on re-arranging my office on Friday, because we're on the top floor of our building..sure to get water in.
Cat 3 or above and I'll be staying with my parents in Beaumont. Cat 2 or below and I'm hunkering down in the medical center with the rest of my bachelor homies.
My parents are driving down to Clear Lake to grab my Grandparents and bring them back up to Canyon Lake. I'm preparing for ACL ~ hey at least it won't be too hot this year...
I've been working in Woodville lately (worst place on the planet), and if it stays the course (and we're now on the third NHC update that shows the same track), I'll come home to Pearland Wednesday night to get things in order. I've always maintained that I'd stay for a three or lower, but the problem is a three can turn into a four in the blink of an eye. I guess I'll leave then if it is three or higher. We'll just go stay with my Mother in Law in Dallas if it happens. Probably come back on Sunday if any flooding has receded. I bought fifteen gallons of water today, and I'll put that in my outside freezer........That will make a little over 100 lbs of ice to at least keep things cool during a power outage.
Oh HOLY HELL NO! I completely forgot about my tickets to the Coldplay concert on Saturday night. Now I am officially pissed off!
this is the person i always laugh at when i'm at the store before these. i remember shopping with my mom before alicia and a lady saying, "oh,i don't know why everyone gets all excited about these things. they're not that big of a deal..and they never come here." i'm guessing she was wishing she'd have treated it differently after we didn't have power for a week.
Holy crap. You mean you can actually stop a hurricane from making a city lose power? Awesome. I know, I know, you meant "buy a candle, lady."
According to Jeff's superimposed map, the eye might be going right over my trailer here in Magnolia. Since we are in a trailer AND in a flood plane, I made reservations for a hotel in Austin. BTW ......Austin, Bryan and College Station are all about booked up (I think I got the last room in Austin on Expedia.com) .....are there games there this weekend?
I'm riding out the storm in our new house in cypress with my mother in law, grandmother, wife and kids. I'm stocking up on candles, propane, water, batteries, diet coke and captain morgans rum.
Riding it out at home. My house is outside of the 100 year and 500 flood plains, and it is solidly built. I already have replaced batteries in my radio & flashlight, gassed up my car, and stocked up on canned food, bottled water, and sterno. Tomorrow, I will go to Specs to stock up on other essentials.
I'm going to my sister's place in Round Rock, just north of Austin...hey, any excuse to see my nephew is OK with me. Everybody that's going to Austin... PARTY AT DADAKOTA'S HOUSE!! WOOHOO!!
