Anybody ever heard of planet fitness? I got a piece of mail in my mailbox that they're opening one in my area. It advertises memberships for 10-20 bucks a month. It sounds like that is the most that you have to pay. The other thing they advertise is a "Judgement Free Zone". Basically what this means is that they cater low-cost pricing to people who are new to the gym membership arena. I used to be in excellent shape about 3 to 5 years ago, and with a wedding coming up, I have the urge to start working out and getting into shape again. The only shape I'm in nowadays is round. I'm seeing mixed reviews on the web(for instance, a member got kicked out for "grunting"...which is against the rules...I don't know about that), and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. What type of equipment do they have? Free weights, Nautilus, or just treadmills, etc.? Thanks for any reviews.
A friend of mine said they have alarms for when people are being too loud or drop weights. That's just too weird for my gym tastes.
Just go with this instead http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11499621 You'll get a reputable gym (sure, people seem to have their issues with 24 Hour, but they're mostly about money, which is all but eliminated by using this method), you get 24 hour access, you get multiple gyms around your area, basketball courts, pools, etc. for about $13 a month. Plus there is no need to sign up and associate a credit card or bank account with your membership, so there's no way they can hold on to you and bleed you dry based on some kind of fine print. I did this last year and have absolutely no regrets. I'm surprised they still have the deal up, to be honest. It's almost too good.
They have quite a few of them in San Antonio. Nice place, and it really is 10 bucks a month. Comes out to 10.84 after taxes. One time sign up fee of like 30 bucks. Ive seen the whole range of people come work out from HUGE to bodybuilders. But more of the people are out of shape than in. Their free weights section is also a little limited. Its 24 hours on the weekdays and open till about 6 on the weekends. No pool, no basketball etc at the ones here tho.
Oh and the ones here have free pizza on the first monday, and free fruits/snacks on the 2nd tuesday of the month. And all you can eat tootsie rolls just coz.
