BYERS, Colorado (CNN) -- A small plane crashed near Byers, Colorado, Saturday night, and local media reports said it was carrying members of the Oklahoma State University men's basketball team. A spokesman for the university would not comment.

Tammy Jones, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the Beechcraft King Air 2000 left Denver's Jefferson County Airport and was lost on radar at 5:35 p.m. EST. The crash occurred about 20 miles east of Denver. A member of the Adams County highway department said it was snowing at the time of the accident.

Jones said the plane was en route to Stillwater, Oklahoma.

A spokeswoman for the Adams County dispatch confirmed that a plane did go down, but could not give out information about any deaths.

The plane was carrying eight passengers, one pilot and one co-pilot. Local media reports said the plane was one of three small aircraft carrying team members, coaches and trainers of the Oklahoma State University men's basketball team. OSU played the University of Colorado in a game in Boulder earlier Saturday night.

Investigators from the National Transportation Safety Board were sent to the scene to look into the crash, Jones said.
