Gerry Hunsicker was quoted as saying that if I do plan A I can't do plan B, if I do plan B it may not be as good as plan A, or something to that effect. With Hunsicker saying that this wasn't even on the radar, and wasn't even in the offseason plans of the club, are Plans A and/or B still options? In a perfect world the Astros would trade Ward, Redding, and two more prospects up to KC for Beltran, hell if that happened I would personally throw Drayton McLane a parade. But I wonder what plans A and B are and if their still viable options? Any suggestions as to what they may be?
I think that one plan may involve the deal to KC...another possibility is Wags and Ward to Boston for Johnny Damon. Perhaps Ward to Seattle for Winn??? I think that a deal will be made to rid us of the logjam in RF and LF...and get a good CF and a reliever. Let me know when and where the parade will be.
This is the first I've heard of trades for Beltran or Damon. Is this news being spread around Houston via the Chronicle? I'm getting nothing in Austin.
Carlos Beltran would be nice, real nice. I have not heard anything on that either though. Dang, I still can't believe we got Jeff Kent! I can smell the World Series baby!
Any of those outfielders would be nice. Adding Beltran, Damon, or Winn to this lineup could make this team deadly. Man, that would be sweet.
I've said it since we signed him, Wags is WAY overrated...not only because of his lack of any real breaking pitch (his slider is essentially a fastball that moves 2 inches). Besides that, I'm fully confident (and you should be too) that Dotel can easily take over the closer's job on the Astros, and save us about 7 mil doing it. (360K verses 7.2 mil). Dotel has about a 95mph fastball (I've seen him throw 97, but not often). He's got an excellent slider, and although he doesn't have another decent pitch, he's fairly sucessful in the 8th inning relief role. He'd be just as successful in the 9th inning, and now with the addition of Tom Gordon to our bullpen, we can afford to lose Wagner. So I'm pretty sure I've lost the point of this post, so I'll let you figure it out...hehe
Gordon is no longer an Astro. They declined to offer him arbitration. Gordon has only pitched around 105 innings over the last FOUR years due to injury problems. Dotel will be making quite a bit more money in 2003.
