http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/fb/texansfront/6633724.html Left guard Chester Pitts has been placed on injured reserve after undergoing surgery on his right knee today and will miss the remainder of the season. Pitts, who started the first 114 games in team history, was injured in Sunday's 34-31 victory at Tennessee. Pitts, who'll be replaced by Kasey Studdard, underwent microfracture surgery and also had damage to his medial collateral ligament repaired. Microfracture surgery is done to repair cartilage damage. It's a technique that repairs tiny fractures in the bone and allows new cartilage to grow. Tracy McGrady of the Rockets is another pro athlete from Houston to undergo the same surgery. john.mcclain@chron.com
This sucks but it did look bad when it happened. It seems to happen alot that when a guy goes through crappy years with an organization then they get good the guy gets hurt and can't be part of it. Good Luck Chester Best Wishes
Don't know about football players and microfracture but for basketball it could be career threatening.
Feel bad for him personally, but dude was a penalty machine. Always with the false start or holding and always at the worst possible times too. Hopefully this Studddard can play and isnt another UT bust
Too bad for Pitts. For those that don't know too much about Studdard, he was a 3-year starter at UT (including both Rose Bowl victories). He was drafted in the 7th round 2 years ago and has backed up Pitts ever since. He pretty much played the entire preseason which I think is gonna help him a lot. He's a got a nasty mean streak and is personally one of my favorite Horns of all time.
Sad that this had to happen in a contract year. I hope he gets the chance to prove that he can still play later on.
This sucks. I've made fun of Pitts a lot in the past. For the first 4 years of his career, it always seemed like every time the Texans had a big play called back because of penalty, you'd hear "Holding, offense #69". Since Kubiak came along, however, he's become a very good player. Hope he's able to make a complete comeback.
Eh, not that big. When Studdard (played on the 2005 UT National Championship squad) stepped in after his injury, we really didn't miss a beat with the offense.
