With Rick Pittino finally raising the white flag at Boston, what will come of the Celtics, or better yet, what would you do?

Drop a bomb on that roster, concentrating on obtaining picks and clearing cap space?

Keep the team together, making a few key personnel moves, i.e., bringing in a PG and frontcourt help?

If I were the head of the Celtics, I say:

    1. Find the best possible GM and HC. No more of one person having both positions.

    2. Keep the nucleus of Pierce and Walker together.

    3. FIND A PG!! FIND A PG!! FIND A PG!! (Pray for Jason Williams from Duke)

    4. Draft best available player.

I think jason williams would be very good for that team, and i am definitely in favor of keeping walker and pierce together.
They also need to give their young guys a chance to develop. Chauncey Billups was only one of promising young player that they gave up on way too early.

Walker is a cancer and must go at all costs. He knows how to put up numbers, but, he has no clue how to win in the NBA. Pierce, on the other hand, would be a nice player to build around.

Gaston should sell the team to Larry Bird. That would get the Celts headed in the right direction. After all, Larry saved the Celts once, he could do it again.

hey bob, what makes you think that pierce knows any more about winning in the nba than walker? if i'm not mistaken, neither one of them has won anything, while they've both put up good numbers.

Pierce plays defense and passes, two things Walker hasn't learned how to do yet.

    I would do the following:

    1) Hire Bird as Director of Player Personnel (or whatever title & $ he wants to re-build the team).

    2) Try to steal Dave Cowens from the Warriors. Or possibly Heinsohn (who's already doing color commentary for TV).

    3) Start the re-build around Paul Pierce until a top flight center is secured.

    4) Deal Walker (for reasons already mentioned) and possibly Potapenko (he's injured alot).

    5) Secure the absolute best inside presence in ANY manner possible (trades or draft..Mutombo is not an option and Webber is not going to Boston).

    6) If a powerhouse center can not be obtained quickly, tread water with Potapenko and get the best available PG in the draft.

I would like to see Dennis Johnson as coach of the Celts. He is currently an assistant coach with the Clippers. He would stress defense, and he certainly knows what it takes to win.

Gater, there are only a few good centers in the NBA, so the Celts would have to draft one.

And dealing Potapenko wouldn't be easy because he isn't worth the money he makes.

The Celts are currently the #8 pick. Several teams above them may not need centers (Jackson/Warriors, Mutombo/Hawks, Wizards/White). Perhaps the #8 and Walker can get them a Top 3?

DJ would be OK, but didn't he coach the Green before?

I think they have some players that might respond to a healthy environment. I personally like Blount, Griffin, Herren, Stith and (I hate to admit this) Battie.

With the right coaching selection, the right draft selections(s) and dealing Walker, they could turn it around in a hurry. Especially in the East.

Rumor has it that Adrian Griffin will be traded to Seattle for Shammond Williams very soon.

My scenario for the Celts would be:

Trade Walker and the #8 pick to the Bulls for Fizer and their (lottery) first round pick.

DJ has never coached the Celts.

    OK, I see you working!

Trade Walker back to the hometown team, and acquire a young PF and a lottery pick (from the Celts' perspective).

Chicago might jump on that because they need another scorer, and Krause needs results QUICKLY or he'll be out on his fat ass this summer! GOOD IDEA!!

But I'd still keep Walker and hope to acquire a PG via draft/free agency/trade. They're close to being a player in that conference.

Walker would have to play SF for the Bulls. Here's a RealGM blockbuster for you.

    Celts trade:
    Walker & 1st rnd pick (probably #8)

to Chicago for: Fizer, Corey Benjamin, Hoiberg & and Voskuhl + 3.5M exception + 1st rnd pick (probably Top 3).

I'm not crazy about Fizer. I think I'd shoot for Crawford, Tarlac & Ruffin to tempt the Bulls.

why do all of you insist on trading walker? Before you label him as a player only interested in his personal stats and someone too selfish to ever be part of a winning team, give him the opportunity to play on a team that has a chance to win. His whole career he's played for the terrible celtics, what would be the point of him sacrificing for the team? the two extra wins would only hurt their lottery position.
