When I hear of pit-bull attacks and deaths, I always hope its the owners involved and not some innocent third party that had nothing to do with the decision to keeps these animals as pets.

Agreed, but still terrible. So, no running water, but they had a pitbull? Strange...

Pitbulls, nor any other dog, is inherently violent. The problem comes from the dbag owners and how they raise them.

That's total bs. That breed and Rottweilers are notorious for just snapping regardless of how they were raised.

Is it bad that I was hoping it was the actual Rapper, that way I would NEVER have to hear his music again? At least, not any NEW music by him. ;)

Stable dogs don't just "snap" but it isn't only how the dog is raised that determines how they turn out.

I know. I had a dog that I raised from 8 weeks old that was a nasty, mean and extremely unstable SOB. I have raised nearly a dozen dogs the same way and never had one turn out like that. This dog's issues were genetic and I know that because the breeder has since been exposed as breeding unstable, needlessly aggressive dogs and passing them off as home/family guardians using slick video editing and showcasing the one out of fifty dogs he produces that is solid in temperament.

I ended up having to put the dog down. It was the hardest thing I have ever done but to pass him on to anyone else would have been dangerous and irresponsible. That dog loved me more than any dog I have ever known but he was screwed from his conception.

This is unbelievably sad. I can only imagine how the husband feels. But better one of the owners than someone else. If anyone has to suffer the consequences of having these dangerous animals, it should be the people who own them.

Perhaps many breeds do, and those just happen to be the most powerful of the bunch.

    Sympathy meter on empty!

PS, Pitts should be banned. No one needs one, and that breed has a long history of erratic and violent behavior.

Actually, the breed has historically been very stable. It's in the last decade or two that the breed has been embraced and ruined by unscrupulous and ignorant folks.

You do have a point about no one needing a true pit bull terrier these days. Their prey drive mixed with their power make them a nightmare for small animals and that just doesn't fly in suburbia or the city where accidents are bound to happen. Luckily, most pit bulls (I call them pet bulls) now days only look the part and have been watered down when it comes to drive and animal aggression.

Unfortunately, it is the bad ones that get all the press.

Snakes and pit bulls can't say I'd miss either one if they were all killed off

I hate to admit it, but from time to time I get drawn in to the various 'Peoples Court' like shows and when ever there is a case involving a violent dog, it is ALWAYS a pit bull. Blame it on the owners or blame it on the dog, but it's a real problem. I think pit bulls AND their owners need to move far away.

I have a good family friend who is a breeder and says the same thing. He said owner's have to work really hard, harder than with most other breeds, raising pit bulls so as not to have something terrible happen with them. He said if you can raise one from a pup and not have it ever kill anything (such as a rabbit, a small dog, etc.) then you have really accomplished anything.

He likened to the whole experience to keeping a light switch turned off. He said once that flip is switched on, then it is very hard to turn back off before the pits become dangerous and seriously hurts or kills something. He said that is how pits are different than most other breeds in that their power and instincts mean once it attacks, there is not much chance of pulling one off its victim before it kills it.
