A team source indicated today that the Pistons are not “remotely” close to a deal for Houston Rockets superstar Tracy McGrady. Metronews.ca, which is based in Toronto, said in an Internet report — but cited no sources — that the Pistons are "making a big push for McGrady." The Pistons source downplayed the report, saying the Rockets are just one of many teams to whom the club has spoken about potential trades. McGrady, a 6-foot-8 forward with 11 seasons under his belt, spent his first three seasons in Toronto. He averaged 21.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists last season for Houston. their other targets include:Wade ,Anthoney,LBJ,Bosh ,Roy,Igoudala,CP3,Deron ,Derek rose, amare ,Dwright,KB. besides Carmelon, which do you think they can get . I would rather trade carmelon or tmac for some younger guys rather than their old men.
i think i would only consider it if we received sheed and prince. i think we would have a defensive juggernaut with yao, sheed, prince, battier, and dorsey in the rotation. bring back the era of the twin towers and this time last.
I am sick and tired of these bloody persistent, pain in the arse Tmac to Detroit rumors. I dont know the true source, but I would imagine its not leaking from the Pistons organisation. More than likely all media beatup. Tracy is NOT a Dumars/Pistons kind of player. He would be like a fish out of water in Detroit. He is a sleek machine. Detroit's motto of "if it aint rough it aint right" couldnt be more anti McGrady. Detroit can def. do better than Mac with the trade pieces they have. Trading (for example) Billups and Prince for McGrady only keeps their core old. if it is true that JD is trying to blow things up, then he would surely be looking at bringing in a player more durable and likely younger than Tracy in any 2-1 deal.
I respectfully disagree..... Prince doesn't fit the "if it aint rough it aint right" but they still landed him. Tracy fits everything Joe DUmars is looking for in a player, T-Mac would be an absolute monster in that system as well. they aren't trying to get younger players, they have a win now mentality.
Raise your hand if you actually thought this deal was going to happen... Oh man, was I scared! Thank you Michigan newspapers... I was lost inside!
Tracy isn't going anywhere because his contract ends 2010. Unless we negotiate a new extension, Tracy's cash and roster spot will be open for the 2010 bonanza. Now, looking at Prince's, Hamilton's, Sheed's and Billups's contracts: Sheed - 08/09 Hamilton - 09/10 Billups/Prince - 10/11 As a result, Hamilton's contract is the only one that aligns with the 2010 FA period where Morey is expected to go after a big name. Now does it make sense for Morey to stay OUT of the 2010 FA frenzy since EVERYONE is going to be in the mix and drive everyone's price high because demand will be driven up? Answer: Yes. If Morey make's his move now, he can use Tracy's contract's expiration date a bargaining chip. He also gets current cost/value for the acquisition/trade instead of the inflated prices possible for the 2010 FA talent. I think if Morey moves on Hamilton (not injury prone) in the transaction, and any combination of another starter and upcoming talent (Maxiell), Then the move would be worth it. BUT, BIG BUT, this is only if Morey is unsure about the 2010 move. Hamilton's contract comes up 09/10, so TECHNICALLY, Houston stays in the running for a FA splash that season, and THAT, my friends is why Morey is such a genius! DAMN!
I could see Tmac being traded to Detroit. The Pistons would be in the bonus for 2010 if they can trade Billups and Prince. Then they'd get TMac now and maybe Carmelo in two years when he's a free agent. But we would be out of the running that summer for the herd of free agents. Which is OK for me IF we have a winning roster now. Too many first round exits, too many "gosh, I tried, but I can only do so much"-es from TMac (which is partially true in any case). The article says there is no trade about to happen but hedges its bets that something could happen in the future.
They have to downplay the rumors since Morey probably just told them to "F" off. Why this trade rumor grew legs...I do not know, I don't think it ever had a chance of happening.
Salary wise, we could get away with trading Tracy for a combo of Hamilton/McDyess/Maxiell or Hamilton/Prince, or several other smaller, less impacting combos involving the bench. What we do is walk away with everyone, EXCEPT Hamilton, and let him go to clear out space for a 2010 FA. What I'm hoping for is Tracy to take LE$$ (probably won't happen) and that way we make financial room and keep Tracy. This only works if we manage to finagle a quality FA in 2010, then it will all be worth it.
the only way tracy will take less money is if a super free agent is guaranteed to come here in 2010. at that age, tracy wants to win. if a joe johnson or wade or somebody like that signs with us, tracy will stay. if not, i don't think he will.
Hmm. Statements like "that the Pistons are not “remotely” close to a deal" and "the Rockets are just one of many teams to whom the club has spoken" in reality just confirm the media reports that the teams have talked about this. No where do they deny any conversation. And saying you are not "remotely" close usually means that the deal isn't dead, but is still being discussed. If they keep making statements like those, this will never go away, because it becomes obvious that the teams have talked and are possibly still talking, which means it isn't a rumor.
