ut is the #1 overall seed. texas state receives at-large berth (in the texas bracket first weekend...thanks!). there are seven schools from the great state of texas in the tournament (texas, rice, tx state, baylor, a&m, tcu and shsu). if you ever get a chance to make it to omaha to see the college world series, i highly recommend it. if texas state somehow makes it this season (they are a #2 in the ut bracket!), i'll be making a road trip!
What is College Baseball? But really, I thought baseball had a farm system that required no higher education to make it into the majors.
Ha. Tx State lost 7-1 in the conference championship game to my Bearkats. That's hardly Omaha material. I wish college baseball got more TV time. It's a lot more pure than the majors. Can't tell if you were being serious or not, but players can enter the baseball draft out of high school or go to college and then enter the draft after 3 or 4 years. I could be mistaken, but I think the most highly touted prospects in the nation usually enter the draft. But there are plenty of great major leaguers that come out of the NCAA (see Lance Berkman).
we knew we were getting in, so we wanted an extra southland team in the tourney, hence the intentional loss in that game.
It's probably the first time the Southland has gotten an at-large birth in anything since being a Div 1 conference. That, on it's own is pretty cool. Congrats Kats & Cats! 3rd straight SLC Championship for the vaunted SHSU Bearkats.
bump It's game day. Here's the ESPN scoreboard Texas St. up 1-0 on Boston College in the 2nd. SHSU vs Rice at 6 pm Texas vs Army at 6 pm
Ugh ... My Ags are already down 4-0 in the 2nd inning. Pretty dissappointing season after starting the season ranked #1 in the country.
UT and Boston College going to the 17th inning tied 2-2. UT's Austin Wood has pitched 9-2/3 scoreless and hitless in relief and is coming out for the bottom of the 17th. Earlier, Army eliminated Texas St. A&M stayed alive, beating Wright St. SHSU was eliminated by Xavier, who will play Rice in an elimination game tomorrow morning after they lost to Kansas St. [EDIT]: Make that 10-2/3 hitless and scoreless innings by Wood as they go to the 18th.
Ridiculous game. Watching it on my computer right now. Both Wood and the Boston College pitcher have been dominating in the second half of the game. NCAA record for the longest postseason game is 19 innings.
How are you watching? I can't get espn360 for some reason. I'm listening to it the old fashioned way...on my radio. I'm not sure what the record for most hitless innings is in college baseball, but Wood has to be up there with 11-2/3.
