I know, I know, Charles HAD to play tonight in his mind. But he was playing with a strained quad - now it is torn, and his career is over. Should Rudy and the rest of the staff be held responsible for letting him play? Hindsight may be 20/20, but it looks to me like we played with fire. And got burnt, big-time.
They didn't have to put him in. I can see why they did it, but if this was against any other team, do we do it? I don't think the loss of CB4 for the season was worth him playing tonight. Again, in hindsight. But still...
He probably wouldnt of played if we were playing some other team. But things happen and barkley ends his career. Sad night ...
I don't see how you can blame Rudy and staff. Unless you are blaming the doctor. If it was that bad, the doctors would have told him he could not play. I think it was totally unforeseeable, and blaming anyone is really a low blow at a difficult time. GO ROCKETS! SaluteCharles = bballfanatic
Before accusations start flying, we need to consider a few facts about the injury: Barkley had a sore quadriceps muscle in his RIGHT leg prior to the game. It had nothing to do with the injury --- which was a ruptured quadriceps tendon in his LEFT leg. It's possible that he might have been favoring his left leg over his sore right leg, but if you watch the replay of the injury, he simply landed very badly in the collision with Tyrone Hill. This was a FREAK accident ... just one of those things. Life sux.
WIGMAN's right. all reports are it had nothing to do with the injury. You guys look for anything to jump on RT about dont you?
it had nothing to do with the injury but thats not the point. rudy should have enough power to be able to tell someone you aren't playing tongiht. bark was injured if rudy would have stood up like a man and told bark you aint playing tonight then this would not have happened
I agree with Rocket Fan. I think the Rockets should tell Francis and all of the other players not to play the rest of the season b/c they might suffer a freak injury. ???? [This message has been edited by shanna (edited December 09, 1999).]
Charles has always done his own thing. Even if he was told he couldn't play in Philly, he would have done it. I still think it was poetic. I love Chuck and what a better place to have it happen than in Philly, where the fans truly do love him. Just looking at the board the past weeks he was constantly criticized, but he went out at a place where they loved him. Good luck Chuck!
