I am, as many here know, in continuous pursuit of the best places to live. Not that I am unhappy where I am, but I just enjoy the prospect of visiting other places with an eye to eventually living there at least part of the year. About a year ago, I started a thread about the places people would live if they could live anywhere, and among several beautiful and exciting places mentioned, one poster ( whose name escapes me at the moment; apologies) posted pictures of San Sebastian, in the Basque region of Spain. I was immediately enchanted, and have done a fair amount of research since, and plan to visit farily soon. But the point is that I don't think I'm alone when I say that seeing and hearing about beautiful places to live in the world stimulates fantasies and ambitions in some ways superior to those stimulated by threads about hot women. So what I was hoping for was a thread where many of us can post pictures about beautful places in the world to live; not necessarily one per, but as many as have really caught your fancy. For me, at least, it really adds to the experience if people give descriptions of the advantages of the places, and why they'd want to live there. Now I am hopeless with computer stuff, and don;t know how to copy and post pictures, but I will include links to pictures of the places I'm listing, and if any industrious soul would copy them in here for me, I;d really appreciate it. Some of the beautiful places I might live one day; Ullswater, England: http://www.picturesofengland.com/Ullswater/pictures-2.htm http://www.picturesofengland.com/Ullswater/pictures-5.htm I love it because it combines the beautful majesty of nature with a sense of echoes ( which you will note plays a big role in where I love) of history. Luxembourg City, Luxembourg http://www.luxembourg.co.uk/citypics.html Just an incredibly beautiful European city, with age, culture, and breathtaking scenery. Salamanca, Spain; http://www.magicspain.com/castilla-leon/salamanca/menu/menu-uk.htm A gorgeous old city of medieval churches and places of learning. Istanbul, Turkey: http://www.rso.wmich.edu/turksa/Map/istanbulPages/Istanbul02.htm http://www.rso.wmich.edu/turksa/Map/istanbulPages/Istanbul06.htm One of the most historic cities on earth, and an unequalled mixture of continents and cultures. Bourton-on-Water, England http://www.picturesofengland.com/Bourton-on-the-Water/pictures-5.htm http://www.picturesofengland.com/Bourton-on-the-Water/pictures-9.htm Beautiful classic English village built on a winding river. Provence, France: http://www.danheller.com/images/Europe/France/Provence/Slideshow/img8.html http://www.danheller.com/images/Europe/France/Provence/Slideshow/img15.html Idyllic Gallic countryside with age old villages and towns. Venice, Italy http://www.terragalleria.com/europe/italy/venice/picture.ital7064.html http://www.terragalleria.com/europe/italy/venice/picture.ital7059.html http://www.terragalleria.com/europe/italy/venice/picture.ital7154.html http://www.terragalleria.com/europe/italy/venice/picture.ital7102.html A city unlike any other, built on hundreds of islands, with water for roads, devoid of cars, and criss-crossed with countless walking bridges. Florence, Italy, and surrounding Tuscany: http://www.northrup.org/photos/cruise/Day4-Florence-Italy/nl-9.htm http://www.northrup.org/photos/cruise/Day4-Florence-Italy/nl-8.htm http://www.florence.ala.it/foto_fi/pic9.htm http://www.florence.ala.it/foto_fi/pic10.htm One of the centers of the Renaissance, and just a lovely city. http://www.mediatech.nl/~rachel/Rachel/bp/Toscany14.html http://www.mediatech.nl/~rachel/Rachel/bp/Toscany07.html And finally, Santorini, Greece ( also known as Thera) http://www.greeklandscapes.com/images/photoscapes/mirabelou-gulf.jpg http://www.thegreektravel.com/santorini/photos.html Just stunning, IMO the most beautiful of the Greek Isles, and might just have inspired the story of Atlantis. Well...that's it for now. I have more ( Amsterdam, Paris, Buckinghamshire, Vienna, Prague, Oxford, Glasgow or the Highlands, Rome, Bavaria, etc.) but this is enough for now. If you have any comments or questions on any of the places I've isted, please feel free. I am looking forward to others' suggestions, pictures, and comments. One last request, please try and keep it realistic from the point of view of places to live; Neuschwanstein or the like, while stunning, aren't really available.
Very nice idea for a thread. The way you can post pictures here is to right-click on the picture, click "Properties", then mark the web address of the picture, copy (ctrl-c) the address and paste (ctrl-v) it here into the image tag thing. You get the image tag thing into your post if you click on IMG above the edit window. Example:
Sam: That was you? Re-post it, man, that was gorgeous! SJC: Thanks. In addition to the one of Ulswater SJC previously showed, here's the other: ( as an experiment) http://www.picturesofengland.com/imagesUpload/thumbs500/Ullswater-10675971943.jpg
MacBeth, you need to use the IMG tag, not the http:// tag... If you type it by hand, the code would be (img)http://whatever.whatever.jpg(/img), just that the brackets would be this type, [ ] instead of ( ).
ibiza, spain its the club capitol of the world. pretty girls around every corner. its a island off of spain, so its not on the mainland. which kind of cool in its self. you have the beach there, old villas. great great place.
Again, thanks, though I suspect you and I might now have to fight it out on an ice float, if you get what I mean... More: Luxembourg City: Will add more later, as I'm not sure if there's a limit per post thing.
Out of those you posted, I have only been to the Provence, Venice and Luxembourg (grew up 20 min. from Luxembourg). Looking forward to going to Tuscany sometime soon, though.
Luxembourg is nice, but kind of boring. One of the richest places in the world (per capita), but mainly bankers. Venice, I was there during the summer...it was too hot, too many tourists, and at night, I found it kind of creepy (which might have been influenced by the fact that I saw divers looking for a corpse in one of the channels). Venice is still beautiful, though. The landscape in the Provence is very nice.
Okay, how can I pass up this opportunity to post some pictures I have taken on my trip . Havanna, Cuba: Mexico City, Mexico: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil: Fernando de Noronha, Brazil: Iguassu Falls, Brazil/Argentina:
