I have both but apparently am not smart enough to figure out what the hell is going on in Photoshop. Might get around to reading one of those walkthroughs some day... So which one do you prefer? Any respective advantages to either? Which is better to further the legend of YoYao? Let the battle begin.
I use Paint Shop Pro excusively. I tried to figure out Photoshop one time, but got sick of it and went back to PSP.
I have Photoshop, but then, my wife went to a tech magnet high school on the east coast where they taught her how to use it properly, so I have some good coaching.
There is no comparison. Photoshop is one of the most powerful software applications available for graphics. It is confusing only because it is so powerful and has so many options.
isn't photoshop 650 bucks or something (legally anyway). psp is about 12 times lower than that or something... i dunno. i used to use psp.... but not after yoyao got mad today. sigh. gave him a chance for payback by putting mine up a week or two ago, but ... nevermind. anyway, yeah... psp is "good enough".
Well, I got Photoshop from a friend, uhh, legally as far as I know....yeah . When I first got it, it was the most annoying thing ever. I was told there was a big difference from PS 6-7, and that it was difficult to use. It was very, very, very difficult to use at first, but it gets easier and more fun. I'm still learning a lot of the functions. I only do existing photos; I don't create backgrounds or images...yet. A lsot of the stuff like 'artistic' crap, I never use. Smudge tool ROCKS!!!
One of the reasons I am a perpetual student is so I can get student software discounts on programs such as Photoshop, Premiere, et al.
I use photoshop only & yes it's not the most user friendly... but like others have said it's a professional software & very powerful for advanced image processing...
PhotoShop prety much owns the image editing software 'business'. I use PS6 and AfterEffects alot. Premiere is pretty cool, also hard to get the hang of at first. Adobe just bought Syntrillium so expect Cool Edit's price to skyrocket.
Paint Shop Pro? Puh-leaze. Photoshop is the gold standard. Hell, it's better than that; it's the platinum standard. If you take the time to learn the functions (just go online to any Photoshop tutorial), you'll find that it's probably one of the most powerful software programs on the planet. It took me a few weeks to really get the hang of it. Now, you can only take away my "clone" tool when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. And I disagree when people say it's not "user-friendly." If you don't know what the tools actually do, then yes, it's confusing as hell. However, the interface itself is pretty easy to work with. At work, we retouch the f*** out of the trading cards with Photoshop. (Ever wonder how a free agent signee is wearing his new uniform on a trading card, yet he's never actually played for the team?)
I just switched from PSP8 to Photoshop 7..and the first thing I noticed is that it is A LOT easier to chop out things and make it look good. It will take me a while to get comfortable with it...but I can tell already that it will improve my Photochopping skills tenfold.
Damn.. you dudes are making me want to give Photoshop another chance. The only version I have is Photoshop 4, though. Does this older version have most of the great features you guys are talking about? Or should I not even bother and just stick to my PSP....
I guess I'm lucky that my dad's experienced in Photoshop, it helped me when I was messing around. Now it's the only thing I use.
Photoshop is what we use in journalism and it is a fine program, but it is not exactly user friendly. It can be daunting at times to use, but once you figure it out, it is by far the finest software of its type around.
