I was driving through Arizona a little over a month ago and spotted one of these bad boys. I have a cousin who works for a DPS office in Austin and he claims that these are on their way to Texas. And in case you guys don't know what that is, it's photo radar. Scary stuff.
It clocks your speed and if you are over the limit it will take a picture of your license plate and the state will then mail you a speeding ticket. Happy times.
I used to drive by one of those all the time in 1975 in Grand Prairie on the Pioneer Parkway. You just slow down at that spot and then be on your merry way.
These are all over the place in Montgomery County in Maryland, and they plan on adding even more. Sounds like it's a nice cash generator for the county. I got one ticket already. I was going 41 in a 30 at 6am in the morning on a 6-lane road with nobody on it. I'm glad they're catching people like me who are driving recklessly. It's a joke, once people realize where the cameras are they speed...slow down when they come to the camera...then immediately speed back up once they pass it. They have no other purpose but to make money. The ticket's only cost $40 and do not go on your record.
You have to think the county will realize that they can generate a lot more money by shifting the location of these things once every quarter or so.
I'm surprised they are further pursuing this stuff. Haven't the red light cameras been pretty underwhelming as far as being a money maker? I thought a good deal of them had been decommissioned because they were costing the city money? Won't these things be more of the same? Especially if, as others have noted, they have to do constant upkeep because kids will vandalize them.
I like them. Perhaps they can avoid needless deaths due to people speeding such as that of John O'Quinn on Allen Parkway last week.
I seldom agree with you, sir, but this time I also do. I think they're good. I see no legs or wheels on them... but... THEY CAN MOVE?!?!?!
I know what's going to happen: If someone knows there is going to be one of those further down the road, that person will gladly "notify" other motorists about it ahead of time on the road... and everyone Any reading on your speedometer over the posted limit. But we never had to worry about that with you, Mr. Riley... not in those 49 games you played with us... you didn't exactly EXPLODE with SPEED to the basket... BTW, that game against the Kings without Dream was won with your tenacity, sir.
$1,000,000,000/$40= yeah, no. We should just tax the hell out of the purchase or use of Yankee and Laker jerseys. I'm almost certain that would root out a large percentage of douchy douchensteins and maybe save a life of two..
That is sad, it takes away the thrill of having a Texas Highway Patrol car scare the bleep out of you bearing down on your tail end lights flashing.
It's actually not bad. First, no points on your license just a fine. Second, it only flags you if you are going 10 mph faster than the speed limit. Third, your first offense (and second if I'm not mistaken) does not count. All in all, it just reduces speed demons over here. I didn't like them at first, but I'm starting to.
Wasn't there a guy somewhere who would put on a costume or mask or something to hide his identity? His thinking was if they cannot prove I was driving they cannot give me the ticket. Not sure if it worked or not.
