Phoenix 37 vs Charlotte 59,down 22 at half time. If they blow up this game again, I could smell that coach Terry Porter getting canned. Steve Kerr has been single handedly killing this franchise.

The irony of the situation is that they fired a great coach because they wanted more defense.

Under Porter they have actually gotten a LOT worse defensively.

This is a domino effect since the day Shaq was acquired to keep up with the Lakers and its only gonna get worse for the Suns. I'm loving this.

Terry Porter won't be fired this season nor during the summer. The Suns are in transition from being good to being bad and that's not his fault. I'm not saying Porter is a good coach, but he isn't the reason for the Suns decline. Steve Kerr may well become the Matt Millen of the NBA. The only difference so far is the Suns were good when he took over and have gotten worse.

I think it's Kerr that might be canned this summer. He should have stayed in the broadcast booth where there is no accountability.

anything that helps the rockets, also the Hornets are playing without west and chandler yet they're hanging it with the Wolves, Sean Marks is playing remarkably well.

i dont know why the suns dont let nash shoot more the guy is a deadeye i love watching him play. I love how rafer puts up twice as many shots as nash and hits only a third and our coach doesn't care yet porter doesn't emphasize nash shooting more. Amare is by no means a franchise player he's too passive he's a great #2 though.

Their organization is sucking (although I like their medical staff).

They gave away role players and their better defensive players for all-offense player, but they also fired their all-offense coach and replaced him with a coach that does not excel on offense nor defense.

Suns are now all-offense completely, do they know what they're doing? Their trades don't make any sense at all.

I bet both the Heat and Suns regret making that trade.

I don't think the Heat regret it.

They are a decent team and have Shawn's contract coming off the books.

Really? I'd say that was a great trade, overshadowed because Amare's production has dropped off. I mean lets face it, Diaw and Bell are not exactly franchise players; they're good role players, and losing two role players shouldn't have this big an effect on a team's performance. In terms of talent I'd rather have Jrich than Boris Diaw and Bell any day of the week.

IMHO this is probably the bigger problem. If Kerr stuck with D'Antoni instead of hiring Curry they'd probably be at the top of the standings right now with their roster. Their coach has no idea how to use Steve Nash effectively IMHO. Nash is such a great shooter he should be taking most of the shots on that team, and yet he's taking only a few because the coach's offensive plays stinks.

If Shaq played in Miami like he has this year they would be better. Not sure why he started to decline in Miami but starting doing better in Phoenix.

...as if they were going far with their gimmicky offense that only a 33 year old PG could run. I'm not saying Kerr's been doing a good job but i think he sensed that they weren't championship material and attempted a desperation move, that failed.

Dantoni really killed their chances of ever becoming a good defensive team. He allowed fowards to hold Nash's man and Amare to just walk around in the paint. These guys are set in their ways, there's nothing Terry Porter can do about it.

There is something Porter can do about it. It's called coaching.

Boris Diaw fits the Bobcats like a glove.......

Boris and Oak work a great tandem........
There is a reason they have been very solid since the trade and that
they blew the Suns out of the water today................

It is true that part of the reason Amare is so bad defensively is D'Antoni's fault. But at least for an offensive minded coach who really had little to work with as far as defensive talent goes (his best defender was Raja Bell), I'd say he did a pretty decent job of improving in that department. The Suns last season ranked 16th defensively (and I believe at various times in the last two seasons, they were as high as 10th, finished 13th in the 2006-07 season). This season, they've dropped all the way down to 25th.

Porter is not nearly as good a coach as D'Antoni was, but even more of the blame falls on Steve Kerr, who has been a one-man wrecking crew for that roster ever since he was hired. Between all the great first round draft pick he has sold off for cash and his dumb trades -- acquiring Shaq, trading away Marion, trading away whatever defensive talent was left on the team with Raja Bell, it's obvious that he should've never left the broadcast booth as A_3PO said.

He also apparently doesn't have much of a clue as far as how to lead an organization, maintain good relationships with his employees and keep people motivated. First he essentially frustrated Marion out of town by openly shopping him all over the place and telling him to his face that he didn't deserve to get paid, then he started getting in D'Antoni's way and getting into coaching arguments that eventually forced D'Antoni out of town. Ever since he arrived on the scene the Suns have gradually degenerated from a high flying, fun-loving, high scoring, league-revolutionizing squad to a group of underperforming malcontents wallowing in mediocrity. It's almost like the quintessential case study in bad leadership.

Wait, are we having a Raja Bell/Boris Diaw intangibles moment? Isn't Jason Richardson a much better offensive player than either of them?

Check out this graphic from a Suns blog. It's dead on.
