On ESPN they're reporting some rumor that Phoenix and Orlando would swap Marion, Johnson, AND a 1st rounder for T-Mac. I hope the price isn't that high for McGrady and if Marion's price is that low then I would hope we would get in to the bidding.
Interesting...That is a pretty hefty price, but seems pretty even. McGrady + Amare would be a force...
yeah this has been posted in the NBA forum a while ago. i don't think we can offer a better deal other than to include Steve Francis. even then, Johnson is solid and their number one will likely be very high. i really hope we can get T-Mac, but it's not that likely.
You don't think Cato's stock has risen enough? Wouldn't he be a -huge- upgrade for them at center in the east? I think they might look at him with a lot of interest.
no way that we score McGrady if such a deal were to go down between Pho/Orl. depending on how the magic see it, we might be able to swing something for Marion though (if they go HS with their picks they would probably rather have cap room than a guy who is peaking now). to be honest IF this were a possibility it would be btter than getting McGrady. Rashard Lewis would be good, but Marion would be beautiful at the three.
no i don't think that cato will be the main factor. but their pick might be top three and we counter with a second rounder? ... i don't know about that. but if the magic GM wants a big name back in return then i guess francis makes sense.
I think in pure basketball terms it's a better deal. Francis = better name recognition, more butts in the seats Cato = better post player than Johnson, automatically gives Orlando an inside edge in the East They might want a first rounder, but a 2nd rounder is more than fair due to what they're getting already.. remember, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
Phoenix has multiple #1's, so there is no reason to believe Smith's rumor, apparently repeated on national TV, includes the lotto. Johnson is a terrific young baller who is due for a new contract soon. Any T-Mac deal may have to await Kobe's case's disposition and later, if exonerated, his decision as to playing destination. (Remember he wear's D'antoni's #!)
i just don't want to overvalue our players. Cato may or may not be good in the East... just because he's got size... that doesn't really prove anything. We all know he has motivation issues, though that may or may not be past him. Joe Johnson has proven himself to be a solid 2 guard capable of scoring big points. Meanwhile Marion in the east would be just as nasty as Steve in the east, it can be argued. And that number 1 is pretty tempting! i agree with you on the butts in seats though. so i don't know... we should call up the magic GM and ask him.
If thats the case, I don't think there a lot of teams that could outbid them. Marion is a solid 20 & 10 guy, that can shoot, defend, and run the court. He would be perfect for the Rox at the 3, but I didn't even consider him being up for grabs. Johnson has really emerged this season, he is a solid scorer and player.
Edit: One thing T-Mac has stressed that he wants to be on a winning team, even T-Mac and Amare might not be enough in the west. Phoenix might not want to gamble all that much, since T-Mac could straight up leave the after next season if things didn't work out.
wow, that sure does make marions value lower than i would had expected he seems like he would be the perfect compliment to yao, PF that has range and can rebound any possibility of a mobley, trade exemption, taylor, 2nd round pick for marion? then sign brent barry pg - francis/duhon sg - barry sf - jackson/nachbar pf - marion c - yao/cato that looks AWESOME to me, the next step would be to get a bonafied SF so we can move jackson to backup sg (lets hope nachbar can become that player) i would be sad to see mobley go because he is such a bargain at his current contract but i think it would be worth it for marion if we could sign barry, the francis - mobley backcourt is just to turnover prone, barry knows how to take care of the ball and can handle the ball alot by taking it down court often im also hoping we can get a steal in duhon with our 2nd round pick (realistically this might require us moving up a little since our pick is very late, but it should take much, maybe our 2nd rounder next year to trade 10 spots or so), duhon would be great off the bench, he knows how to run a offense, is a good defender, quick and can run the fast break (unlike francis) i think nachbar will be in the rotation next year for sure, and should get solid minutes, this will allow us to slide jackson over at the 2 for when barry needs breathers, or we could even go pg - barry, sg - jackson, sf - nachbar if we wanted to when resting francis, although i think duhon would be great off the bench, basically i like the versatility of having barry what do yall think? would like this lineup or dislike it? do yall think this is realistic at all?
A solid power forward -complementing Yao would help our team more than T Mac.......An elite front court would carry us farther with the back court we have now. I realize we cannot afford Elton Brand, but what about a big body - Jamal Magloire like player?? Look at what a 40 year old Karl Malone has done to us...
"any possibility of a mobley, trade exemption, taylor, 2nd round pick for marion?" opps take the 2nd round pick out of their, i decided i wanted to draft duhon, lol
