http://www.nba.com/suns/news/mccarty_050208.html they received walter mccarthy for cash n the warriors 2nd round pick.
Walter isn't what they need off their bench. I guess he's a plus, because he can play four positions, but they should have traded for a rebounder to solidify their transition game. They should make a move for Samuel Dalembert. To give you an idea of Walter's game, he's a poor man's Austin Croshere.
A bench beyond 2-3 players really isn't that useful in the playoffs. Plus, given that McCarthy's main redeming quality as an NBA player is the fact that his name sounds cool when said with a deep Boston accent (which won't even happen anymore), the add is really not that useful. On the other hand, everybody in the NBA has the same roster size, and you never know what will happen in regards to injury or consistent foul trouble - better to have McCarthy than some real scrub.
It's significant for the Suns because their bench was previously 1 player deep, 0 deep before they added JJ. Now, they have 2 serviceable vets off the bench. I expect McCarty to see a good deal of PT.
exactly, depth may not be huge in the playoffs, but when you have no depth you get what you can. walter is at least a decent nba player. plus he seems to mostly just shoot (and even occasionally hit) 3's every once in a while which should fit their offense w/o taking touches from anyone else that's actually good.
When McCarty played for the knicks, I remember him singing the Star Spangled Banner- he has an outstanding voice...really...
I don't see how you could knock anything about this. They got a servicable bench player for nothing. Plus he is another player whose game will only be helped by Nash. Word is he had a good relationship with the Celtics who are trying to get younger and they were just doing him a favor.
