I don't feel happy about, but I told you so! Mo Cheeks isn't an NBA level coach. Portland got a huge upgrade by switching to Nate McMillan. The Sixers are toast. They won't be the worst team in the East or anything, but it's gonna be a long year. I wonder how long Iverson's love affair with Cheeks will last. 0-3 after losing by 17 points to Charlotte! This time, the Bobcats didn't get outscored 30-9 in the 4th quarter. Next up for the Sixers: At Indiana, home to Dallas. They will be 0-5 after next Wednesday.
i agree they are off to a horrible start...but they can still win that division, it's that bad. they just need to get dalembert back and get andre iguodala the damn ball some more. the season is never over after 3 games, especially in the nba and in the Eastern conference.
You may be right. But I predict the Nets will win the Atlantic Division, Indiana, Detroit, Cleveland, Milwaukee will emerge from the Central and Miami and Washington will make the playoffs from the Southeast. If Chicago has a decent year, the Sixers are out of the playoffs. If the Bulls falter, the Sixers will sneak in at #8. I think the Nets have cakewalk to the #3 seed in the East and will be the only team in that division to make it.
Philly is stuck in a hard position. AI is the face of the Sixers and unfortunately, as long as AI is there, they won't improve as a franchise. AI is one of the those players that has to do it by themselves, they do it well, but they can't win games by themselves.
As their 0-2 record indicates? Come on. I consider McMillan and Cheeks pretty much on par. The problem Cheeks is facing is Webber. The guy is through. He can get his points, but he has to force his offense to get them. Once he AND Iverson jack up 20+ shots each, you lose all possibility of a team concept. Worse, the guy is officially a revolving door on defense. He's outquicked and outjumped by almost any PF he faces, he's leading the team in TO, and that's a recipie for disaster. The best thing the Sixers can hope for is that he blows his knee out again and retires. Harsh but true. Last year he louded proclaimed that he would never accept a diminished role, despite all the signs that he's well past his prime. Ewing syndrome. Evan
I have to say, I am a bit surprised about how the team is playing to start the season. I like their starting lineup. I think Evan's right, Webber and AI need to take less shots and I think their young guys like Korver, Iggy and Dalembert (when he gets back) have to start making some noise. Their bench also looks non exsistant. They probably need to tweak that a bit.
I don't understand what's going on with Korver. Seems like he has completely lost his shot. That guy is wrecking my fantasy team by himself!
Two basic things at play: 1. As I mentioned above, Webber and AI are accounting for 46 of the teams' 83 FG per game (55%). That's limiting chances for the remaining guys in the rotation. Guys can't get into a rythym if they don't get shot attempts. 2. Cheeks has leaned hard on Korver to not be a one-dimensional shooter. Because of this, Korver has attempted less 3 pointers. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to get to the basket much more than his previous two years. Putting those two things together, Korver's taking barely half the number of shots/game that he did last year, mostly by passing up 3s (6.8/game last year, 3.5 this year). End result is a less effective game. If he gets comfortable with a midrange game or slashing, he should boost his FG% and get back on track. But he also needs to realize that he has to take his shots when he can, cause Iverson and Webber aren't going to sacrifice their numbers anytime soon. Evan
Mo Cheeks isnt over rated at all. The Sixers have had some bad luck thats all. PLus you have to remember that Samual Dalembear hasn't played at all this season and he's he's a big part of that team. Also the Bobcats aren't that bad of a team. There coach Bernie Bickerstaff has them competitive in every game and I predict 30 -35 wins this year for the bobcats. THey improved and should get a few more victories. Go Rockets!!!
well, they beat the Pacers in Indiana, so your 0-5 prediction is already out the window... you sure told me so
Yep, 0-5 is out the window, but it's gonna be a long season chasing the playoffs. I don't think they will keep up with the Nets and I think it's <50% they are good enough to get the #8 seed. Other than some other team losing a key player, the only way the Sixers make it is for Webber to have a great season. I don't think he can do it.
if you would have started this thread about the Knicks, I would have completely agreed with you... to me , NYK is in more trouble than Philly this year... I just think the 76ers had a rough time getting out the gate, they had to play Detroit in Game 1, and newsflash: Charlotte is 2-1, they already got their first road win... EDIT:see NYK's home loss to Golden State- 0-3 under the coach that has been to the NBA Finals two years in a row.... new coaches this year are overrated, all across the board, from Jackson to Brown to Cheeks
