Heard that Jackson is holding a press conference this afternoon to possibly announce his return to the Lakers.

I have a friend at Fox News who heard the rumor. Looks to be true.

Nice. Shaq and Kobe and Phil! Together again!

This will be interesting. Somewhat surprised he's got the stones to take on a mediocore roster, but he must really be getting off on the entire franchise begging him back.

    Stupid

Stupid stupid stupid stupid. He's got a better roster and a better chance at adding to his "great" legacy with his former team (the Knicks) than to be try to be Jordan-esque and tarnish his coaching career.

No way Phil Jackson wins another championship with the Lakers.

Yep. He will crash and burn and we will all smile.

or... Kobe will be his Jordan, Odom will be his Scottie and I'll eat crow.

Stupid would be going to play for the Knicks with their salary cap hell.

The Lakers have Kobe and play in LA. The fact that they play in LA will be enough to lure free agents alone. Not a terrible situation to be in, but he doesn't have a championship roster handed to him. He'll have to acquire players this time around.

If he can pull out a championhip with this LA Lakers squad then I will never say a negative thing about him again. Heck, I'll even give him 2-3 years to add a few pieces but I am betting on it won't happen. Kobe is a head case.. ;)

Lakers to unveil Jackson as new head coach

    Tue June 14, 2005 1:42 PM GMT-04:00
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Phil Jackson is to be re-appointed head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA team said on Tuesday.

Jackson resigned from the post a year ago and did not coach during the 2004-2005 season. He led the Lakers to three NBA championships during his five years in charge.

The Lakers will hold a news conference later on Tuesday.

Sadly ... in the last three seasons, Rudy Tomjanovich has "worked" for Jeff Van Gundy, flamed out on a lucrative deal to coach the Lakers and now "works" for Phil Jackson.

Seriously, is this TheFreak's worst nightmare or what?

This sucks, now you have to add the Lakers as another team that will be in the running for the playoffs, that makes what? Every team in the Western conference! Oh well.

As far as Jackson's legacy, that's set as one of the top 5 basketball coaches in history no matter what, the only things that will suffer are his winning percentage records.

Have he and Kobe patched things up or what? There are rumors that Kobe was trying to keep him out of the Lakers, and then there's the book. Although, he does admit to mistakes he made with Kobe.

The roster moves they make should be interesting...

I wouldn't discount anything. With Phil Jackson coming back, I am pretty sure Kobe is on a leash of somewhat that he's placed on HIMSELF. I mean, now that he has Jackson, winning a championshp sans Shaq would still be a monumental turnaround for Kobe. But that means he'll have to go Jordan on the league and actually learn how to P-A-S-S. He DOES have an all-star and former olympian as his power forward. I wonder if they would try to move up to #3 and get Paul or Williams to play point.....

#10, #37, Future #1 Caron Butler and Chucky Atkins

    For

    #3 and a resigned Shareef?

Mihm, SAR, Odom, Kobe, And #3..........that could be a team Phil can get into the playoffs and then some....

Hey, P-Jax is back. Go Lakers -- to hell.

(BTW - they have a good nucleus. They'll be a playoff contender, absolutely.)

If BCT can win a championship** with that POS roster, I'll gladly join edc's "Jackson is the best coach in the history of the universe" circle-jerk.

**However, like edc, I have annoying qualifications that need to be met. Jackson MUST win more than 52 games in the regular season and claim the NBA championship without going to any Game 7s. Plus, his team's PA average has to be in the top 10 of the league. If any of my demands are not met, I will not be satisfied.

Why on earth would you disqualify his for this?
