Just wanted to let you guys know Phil Jackson will be the 5 minute interview on PTI today- Thurs (4/15) 5pm eastern ESPN Curious to see what he says about the first round series with Houston.
Knowing Jackson, he'll probably say a bunch of cocky crap and piss me off. But he does occasionally offer respect. Hopefully Wilbon will have our back...at least Yao's. Thanks for the heads up. BTW, did anyone see David Stern on the Hot Seat? Dan Patrick had him play word association and when he said "Yao Ming," the first word to come out of Stern's mouth was "Championships." Totally cool.
Wow I watched the interview and all I thought I heard him say "WORLD CHANGING", but if he said Championships that that is a good endorsement
Stern didn't say championships, he said "world changing, bringing China to the NBA, and the NBA to China."
Phil Jackson's comments were pretty interesting. On PTI, he admitted that Yao gives Shaq fits and gave Yao a lot of respect. He said Yao isn't someone Shaq can leave alone to help out on defense. He also said Yao was a very good player. On Sportscenter, he said the Yao/Shaq matchup was going to determine the series.
Does anyone know what is the motivation behind all the Yao bashing from this Kornhiser(sp?) guy? He wants Yao to fail so much that is not even funny anymore!
you have to understand..that's how the show set up...kornhiser and wilbon will always disagree on things..one in 20 times they will agree on something..but most of all they ahve to have different opinion on everything..that's why they have a show...the show woulnd't be interesting if both guys agree on the same thing everytime...like kornhiser like tiger woods...while wilbon dislike......kornhiser like lebron while wilbon like carmelo..ya see...?..so if it was switch..let say kornhiser like Yao..then the show would make wilbon dislike yao..it's part of the show...
Sure, I'm with you on that but he didn't need to all jack up about it. Did you notice that he seems to bash Yao with extra energy?
Well I used to listen the Tony Kornheiser Radio Show (RIP), and it's also because Tony originally did think that Yao would be a bust. I believe his exact words were "he stinks on ice". But since Yao started playing well, he's pretty much resigned to the fact that Yao is pretty good, and can become great. But you're right that he doesn't like to admit it because Wilbon was high on Ming from the beginning, and there is definitely some competition between the two on who's correct.
notice the hypocricy from Kornheiser? He said he wouldn't like to see Yao get a championship now because he "just got here" BUT he said it would be "cool" to see Carmelo get a championship now...WTF!
m_cable, Do you know if Kornhiser bashed Yao on his now canceled radio show? Yao had since proved a lot of doubters wrong except may be him. Kornhiser, better jump on the bandwagon!
He didn't really bash Yao after the first few weeks of Yao's rookie year. And many of his regulars are huge Yao fans (i.e. Bob Ryan, the whitest YOF in the world, and David Dupree among others). I miss his show. It was the best thing on radio. And his "internet show" was on another level: Greatest Radio Programs of all Time 1. Orson Wells rendition of "War of the Worlds" 2. Tony Kornheiser Internet Show That's it, that's the list.
