Link to Article Jackson: Kwame's a sissy 12:28 AM PST on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 Broderick Turner MILWAUKEE - In his unique and condescending way, Coach Phil Jackson questioned Kwame Brown's manhood Tuesday. Brown has been out for almost three weeks with a strained right hamstring that was supposed to heal in two weeks. He's on the six-game road trip but is not expected to play tonight in Toronto or Friday night in Chicago. In fact, Jackson said, there is no timetable for Brown's return. "I'm not putting pressure other than just call him (a sissy) every time I see him in the locker room," Jackson said. Jackson walked into the locker room and pointed to a brown mink coat stashed on top of a coat rack. "See, that's Kwame's," Jackson said, laughing derisively. Brown also has a cyst on his right wrist that has become a problem. Brown said Craig Hodges, the Lakers' shooting coach, first noticed the injury. "I just felt it the other day. It wasn't that big. It just started swelling," he said. "The hamstring is feeling a lot better," he added. "That's the bright spot." Smush, aka Sticky Fingers Smush Parker entered Tuesday night's game 10th in the NBA in steals, getting 1.7 per game. But his average moved up to 2.2 after he had a career-high seven steals against Milwaukee, an NBA season high and the most by a Laker since Eddie Jones had seven Dec. 29, 1996. "Oh yeah, I'm a thief," Parker said, smiling. "I'm from Brooklyn, aka Crooklyn. You develop them hands growing up in New York City." Parker also had 20 points on 8-for-17 shooting with four rebounds and four assists. "He's played very well," Jackson said, adding that consistency from game to game is key for Parker; "maybe not the same scoring, but something comparable." Rare Start for Vujacic Because the Bucks started a three-guard lineup, Jackson put guard Sasha Vujacic into his lineup in place of power forward Brian Cook. Jackson was asked if Vujacic, who had six points in 28 minutes, would start again on this road trip. "No, it's too good to happen again," Jackson joked. Jackson on a Roll It was another city and another round of questions about expectations for the Lakers, and Jackson offered his thoughts. "We're just out here kind of treading water as a basketball team right now," Jackson said. "We're neither hot nor cold, neither fish nor fowl ... We're not daunting as a team physically ... "I expect this team to catch fire and start playing (good) basketball sometime around the New Year ... and have some strength at the end of the year." Reach Broderick Turner at bturner@pe.com
I could be wrong but that dosent sound like something "Zenmaster" Phil would say. It is funny though.
My problem with this is, I've bolded all the parts that were inserted by the article writer. Unless there is a video, it's questionable to take this at face value. especially since Jackson apparently never said the words "manhood" or "sissy." I'm not even sure who's behind pe.com (Press-Enterprise), other than it purports to be a "Inland Southern California" website. Evan
The way these newspapers operate, I'm guessing that Jackson actually said "p***y". That's not something the paper would print, so the writer went with a substitute.
Jackson is NOTHING like Jordan. See, MJ called Kwame a "f!ggot." Phil called him a "p***y." HUGE difference.
Jackson doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would say something that course in front of the media. He's been incredibly measured with his words every time I've seen him in front of the media. Never a "playoffs" or a "practice" style meltdown. Then again, this could be the zenmaster using headgames again...
I guess PJ is figuring out what the rest of the league already knew. Kwame is just as much of a bust as Kandi.
This is the L.A. Times' report on the same situation... makes Jackson's comments seem lighthearted, esp. with the context of the first quote that the other article chose not to include. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakerep7dec07,1,3083661.story?coll=la-headlines-sports Brown Isn't Set for Return MILWAUKEE — Injured forward Kwame Brown accompanied the Lakers for their six-game trip, but there's no telling when he will return to the lineup. Initial estimates had him out at least two weeks because of a strained hamstring, but the three-week mark will be Friday. "I'm not projecting anything about Kwame," Coach Phil Jackson said. "I don't want to put time limits on injuries like that. There's nothing you can do about it. He has not recovered in the projected speed of two weeks that was originally projected for him. I'm not putting pressure on him." Jackson added with a smile that he mocks Brown's toughness "every time I see him in the locker room."
Yeah, it seems pretty obvious to me that he was joking. I'm a jackson hater, but not even he is dumb enough to say something like that so soon after Kwame arrived.
Yeah! The Fakers keep complaining about missing items from their locker room. They opened Smush's locker and there was everyone's stuff. He's like a ghetto Santa Claus.
