The Zen master would really like to coach Yao. Just wonder what Lakers can offer for Yao. But the obvious reply from Rockets would be a BIG NO and Jackson knows about it, which is why they are not looking at any other center in the league. BTW, Phil, what about Duncan? They would like another center, but the Lakers know that trading for one is unlikely. "Right now we could say, 'Yeah, in that regard we could always use another big guy,'" Jackson said. But Jackson said that other than the Houston Rockets with Yao Ming, there aren't that many big centers in the Western Conference who would make the Lakers think that they need to acquire a center. The top teams like Dallas, Phoenix, San Antonio and Utah don't have dominant centers. http://www.pe.com/sports/breakout/stories/PE_Sports_Local_D_lakers_notes_09.2810a74.html
I would mind if Yao was in Phil's Lakers' roaster, but not if he was in Phil's Rox' roaster. Both highly unlikely though.
I think you're reading it wrong. Phil is saying that since Yao is the only big center in the west, they don't need to bring in another big man for match-up purposes. I'm sure Phil would love to coach Yao (how perfect would he be in the triangle), but that's not what the article is about.
You forgot the end quote: "There is a lot of mobility that's needed at the center spot right now," Jackson said, "especially in the West." I think he's talking about small ball.
Please include the rest of the information. It's quite obvious, that he is not talking about acquiring Yao Ming. He is basically saying this. Due to the injuries of Kwame and Chris, they would like another center added to the roster. It's not important, because Houston is the only team in the West with a big dominant center. Being mobile is more important than big and dominant because of teams in the West(Phoenix, Utah, San Antonio). A reporter asked him if the lakers needed another center, since Kwame Brown and Chris Mihm are injured. Here is the full article. -------------------------------------------------------------- Low on Centers With the news that Kwame Brown will be out another four to six weeks with a sprained left ankle and Chris Mihm out all season after having right ankle surgery, the Lakers are down two centers. I think he means that fakers do not need another C to defend other west teams except rockets. And he will pray not to meet us at playoff.
yeah, it was all CD and Les's fault. We should be brought in Zen master. Not that JVG is not a good coach but he just can't compete with PJ on his achievements. SO far I am still not seing How JVG play with tmac and Yao would work up to the way that Triangle offense did for shaq, jordan..alike.
I think Phil is just fishing. With our chemistry right now without Yao, that gives a little possibility. So who would you take for Yao? Kobe is out of the question. Bynum and Odom + 1st round? Hmmmn... it hurts but inviting...
We are not going to trade Yao. The Lakers would jump all over that deal because it would be a steal for them. That is not inviting at all and it is a bad deal for us easily.
Yao will be a Rocket till he retires. He is loyal to the cause and the organization will always be loyal to him. I would never want Yao be a Laker or any other team member but the Rockets.
