In addition to being a stupid move for financial reasons, I think Phil's comments last night were also a major cop out for his team.

Phil basically said that after a few questionable calls went against his team, it stopped them from being aggressive. To me, that is a much bigger indictment of the Lakers than it is of the referees.

I hope if anything this leads the officials to really call it for the nuggets in LA.

usually when a coach is fined for comments like this it doesnt bode well next game.

but thats correct Phil basically said his team couldnt play well because of the officials which is a total lame excuse and an arrogant one for not giving denver proper respect and credit

Classic Phil. He has a history of manipulating officials. Watch the Lakers get a lot of calls from now on.

To him its money well spent.

To be fair - he is about the only person outside of Rockets fans who gave credit to us for pushing the Lakers to the limit.

I completely agree. The Lakers played soft, simple as that. One minor excuse I'll give them is fatigue, which clearly plagued them in the 4th quarter. That's why I think this series is going 7 unless the Nuggets snag game 5.

Yes, and he had to use an expletive to do that. :D

It is well known that Phil never gives the opponent credit. He was really mad when people kept asking him why his Lakers could lose so much to the Rockets. It was more like a frustration cuss than anything else.

The same old trick. Joey Crawford will ref game 5 to make sure Lakers win.

With the way the refs have been this playoff I don't think anyone should be fined for criticizing them. ;)

He gave credit to Yao and Brooks in the first win and subsequent wins outside of him cursing, normally, he'd follow his MO, limit it to one or two players and have his game plan structured around stopping them in the next game. But Phil, is rarely sincere, so usually it is either deflection or mind games. But a lot of coaches do just that as well.
