Praise for Ron by Phil Jackson and Kevin McHale:

I miss Artest. If Yao wasn't hurt, I wonder how a far last season's team would have gone and what the current team would look like.

Ariza is fine. He works hard. I see why we got him since he's younger and more athletic. But he's nowhere near as entertaining as Artest.

If he was Ron for us, why did it feel so right?

He's no where near as good as Artest either.

I don't think Ron would have looked too good playing for the Rockets this season. Look at the toll it's taken on Scola and Battier, two hard-playing veterans with no mental health issues.

I'm not saying Ariza is better by any stretch, but I certainly never "felt right" about Ron and his offensive game. In fact, an overwhelming sense of "wrongness" would overcome me almost every time he'd shoot.

He shot close to 40% from the 3 pt line. Nothing wrong with that. I felt fine with him launching those. There are many more people who give me a sense of "wrongness" when shooting.

I was okay with his 3's if they were catch-and-shoots moving to his left. Anything else seemed like a brick. I wasn't okay with his dribbling for 15 seconds and jacking up a mid-range brick, either.

But Daryl Morey says Ariza is better.

The problem was that also shot only 40% from inside the 3 pt line.

If you want a 35 mpg chucker with overrated defense and something missing/malfunctioning up there, then yeah...however that part about Ariza not being a 35 mpg player is true, it's more like 25-30.

Ron would have been too all over the place with this year's team (offensively).

However, he hit some HUGE shots for us all season long...I've seen Ariza make one or two big shots.

And I agree...Ariza should be playing 25 minutes a game

Agreed. He DID come through for us in Game 7 against the Blazers when they were swarming Yao (remember the "Ron-Ron into the stands again video?"), and that's something I won't soon forget.

Ron would have been the better stop gap (as a go-to guy) for us this season than Trevor, but when Yao returns, Ariza should be better fit for an Adelman system because he's not the ball-stopper Ron is.

Artest fits better for LA because he garners more attention from other teams, and takes some focus off Kobe & Gasol. He's playing the Rodman role of those Bulls teams.

Funnier still, Ariza countered it with a big 3 of his own!

I miss Artest! He brought a certain toughness to our team which was severly lacking. His energy was contagious! Landry was tough before, but he was an animal when Artest came, Luis gained that extra swagger, Shane was still Shane. Yao gained the most from Artest, I saw something outta him I never saw before, which was than no-nonsense attitude towards the defensive end.
