All I can say is: WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I know Ima Drummer can't be taking this news very well. His national show airs in Houston 7-9 weeknights on 97.5. If you've never heard of him tune in while you still can. http://www.mediaweek.com/mw/news/tvstations/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1002424290 Radio Vet Hendrie to Pursue Acting Katy Bachman APRIL 27, 2006 - Phil Hendrie, one of the most creative and unique talents ever to broadcast on radio, is hanging up his mic to pursue his acting career. The last live broadcast of The Phil Hendrie Show, syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks (7 to 10 p.m. PST) on more than 100 radio stations, will be June 23. For 16 years, Hendrie has taken the traditional talk format and turned it on its ear, with scores of characters that call in as if they were real listeners. “It’s time for me to take them from behind the microphone and present them in front of the camera,” said Hendrie. Hendrie has most recently been featured in NBC’s sitcom Teachers, as the cynical history teacher, Dick Green. He also appeared as Judge McCarthy on Richard Appel’s sitcom A.U.S.A. He’s also performed several character voices on numerous episodes of the animated TV shows, King of the Hill and Futurama. His movie credits include being the voice of I.N.T.E.L.L.I.G.E.N.C.E. and playing a terrorist character in Team America: World Police. “While his is a huge loss for radio, it’s a big win for television,” said Shelley McCrory, senior vp of comedy programming for NBC Universal Television Studio. “We’re thrilled with the work Phil’s doing on our comedy series ‘Teachers’ and look forward to a long future with him.’”
I didn't know he was the guy on Teachers. His voice is so familiar to me, yet I've never listened to his show.
Let's get Tom Leykis to replace him on 97.5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leykis is 10 times better than Hendrie!
man that blows he airs here in la on am 570 at the same time 7-9pm. i used to listen to him all the time on the way back from my night classes. he always cracked me up. its a shame that we wont be able to listen to him anymore after june, but its good that he is able to advance his career. and for those who havent heard him yet, tune in
Friday's show was actually THURSDAYS show here in Houston. Does that mean we will get to hear the FINAL FRIDAY show on Monday? If not, I'm pissed!
Yeah, he does his show (or used to do his show ) from 9 to midnight our time, so they would have to play the previous night's show here in Houston since it's from 6 to 9 our time. I hope they play the last show on Monday. I am (or was) a backstage pass member. They are going to keep the website. He's going to put every show he's ever done (since being syndicated) on the site in MP3 format. Also, he said he's still going to do a show "every now and then" just for the website members. I'll believe that when I see it. But I guess I'm still going to pay the $7 a month for the website. There's going to be a LOT of material to download. I may have to buy a seperate iPod just for his stuff. Still can't believe it's over though. I never thought I'd see this day.
Any idea what is going to replace him on 97.5? I heard a new show, Phil Valentine, on the afternoons now.
