Is anybody watching this? Tiger has that look in his eye that we've all seen before. He's 3 under for the round and has a 3 stroke lead. Besides that last tee shot (on 7, I believe) he's pretty much been his usual perfect self. Not to jinx him, but this is his tournament to lose. It's pretty amazing watching history unfold on live TV. Tiger is my generation's Jack Nicklaus.
If Tiger wins this one, I'd say he's officially back. He's not quite dominating like he was in 2000 (he's more of an efficient assassin these days), but the results speak for themselves: 4 majors in the past two years (if he locks this one up), and 3 additional top 5 finishes, with the only other finish being when he missed the cut at the US open after his dad died.
Look what he did on 11. He makes a horrible tee shot, then recovers and makes a beautiful 2nd shot and still ends up making birdie. On 7, he hits his tee shot almost out of bounds, yet still finds a way to make par. I've never seen anyone recover from making 'bad' shots like Tiger does. Bogies are just not a part of his game.
Tiger is so overrated -- first of all he has a huge equipment advantage I heard his driver is made of kryptonium. Second he's obviously juicing - I mean look at the size of his teeth ~ hello, HGH. Third -- oh well, congrats Tiger...
Tiger >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Figjam. Mickelson is so overrated i'm sick of him. He finally wins a couple majors and it's like he finally has amounted to something. Well I think he sucks and will never be considered near the same level as Tiger ever again.
Two questions. 1.) Who said Mickelson > Tiger? No vague replies... specific quotes with links. 2.) A player who has won majors in each of the last three years sucks? That's great logic. Do you have any idea how difficult that is to do? The Mickelson haters are so shallow and narrow-minded... I love it. To you guys, it's either the guy is Tiger Woods, or he sucks. Guess what? There is actually some middle ground. Just because you aren't as good as Tiger doesn't mean you suck. Also, you twist things very well... you downgrade three to a "couple" and then call him "overrated" without a shred of evidence of said overrating. I'm waiting.
You guys think he can pull another 'Tiger-slam'? I didn't think we'd ever see that again, but don't look now...he's halfway there.
I think it could happen... then again, its not a big deal if it doesn't happen (Tiger's still going to blow away the 18 majors win record). What's even more impressive is his 12-0 record when leading after the third round of a major... that is surreal given the nature of golf and how players will eventually succumb to extra pressure. Tiger can beat people on his own... but he also forces others into beating themselves. He's so much more physically, mentally, and emotionally stronger than the other competition... its scary.
"'When Phil's at his best, I'm thinking nobody can beat him,' Pelz said." http://www.theage.com.au/news/golf/...lson-coach-says/2006/08/15/1155407810850.html
I love it. The guy is so awesome, he is a freak of nature. I never saw Jack in his prime so i cant compare them, but Tiger looks like the best golfer of all time in this generation. I love the quotes from the players last night on how they felt they all had a chance but once it started you knew they realized they were all playing for second
If Phil (and several other top golfers) could get themselves into top condition like Tiger they might play much better. Phil for example often struggles to lower his scores on the final day compared with his early rounds. Could it be because of that huge belly he is lugging around?
I think if any of the elite golfers are at "their best", it will be tough to beat any of them... Phil, Els, Vijay, Sergio (haha), Dimarco, etc. The thing that separates Tiger from the rest of the pack is that he is at "his best" far more of the time than other golfers are at "their best." Its also rare that any of the elite golfers are able to play their best (when Tiger is playing at an elite level) because of the intimidation factor.
Besides his own coach, I mean. Come on - I'm sure there are 50 golfers who have people within their immediate inner circles who think they are the best "when they are on." It's like everyone's mom thinking their son/daughter is going to be the next Senator. I mean an objective source - analyst, other players, fans... you name it. Of course his own coach will say that.
That's a common misperception. Phil actually has a very good track record on the final day relative to his early rounds... the story of his career has been one of quite a few close losses where he plays fantastic on Sunday but ultimately had a bit too much ground to close when the round started. As for his belly, if you think that's huge, you need to get out a bit more.
I saw the past two days off and on and man, Tiger is simply the best...He knows how to close and he's always in the zone the last day...12 - 0 when leading or tied after 54 holes in majors believe... To bad Luke choked...He'll be back...
