"The three questions asked respondents which party has a majority in the U.S. House of Representatives (Republicans); the name of the current U.S. Secretary of State (Condoleezza Rice); the name of the current president of Russia (Vladimir Putin)."

LOL ... sound like rocket science questions. What a joke.

In other news listeners of O'Reilly and Limbaugh are more in favor of supporting criminals and cover up than fans of NPR.

Only 39% of NPR listeners could.

I find this study difficult to square with my personal experience. gwayneco, you listen to those right wing nut shows and you're still awfully dumb by anyone's measure, so how do you explain that?

The title of this thread, and the article itself, is highly misleading. Asking people three questions to make a conclusion about how informed an entire group of people is may be the dumbest thing I've ever heard. More knowlegeable/informed about what...those three questions?

I bet listeners of O'Reilly and Limbaugh know more about phone sex, vibrators and drugs than listeners of Daily Show.

I think what’s even sadder about the poll is that only 46% of Republicans could name Condi as Sec. of State and only 69% knew that the Republicans held the majority in the house.

    Let's be fair.

O'Reilly and Limbaugh are more in favor of supporting WHITE criminals and cover ups.

From personal experience, I do think that the average conservative "knows more" than the average liberal. I'm totally biased - but it seems "easier" to be a liberal. Maybe it's because I live in a predominantly liberal state - so the "out of the box thinkers" here who tend to label themselves "conservatives" probably do read up a little more. It's probably different in the red states - where it's socially easier to be a conservative. Heck I'd probably be considered a liberal hippie in Arkansas.

I do think those 3 questions do provide some sort of litmus test. If you can't answer those - you probably sholdn't be voting (and most likely aren't).

Overall though - those stats don't really tell us much. What WOULD have been illumintating is if they also polled CARTOON NETWORK, ESPN, or Hustler TV viewers and put those numbers next to the lofty 28 percent and 31 percent from FOX and CNN.

Maybe Andy can take a stab at changing up the SAT. Two out of three gets you in.

O'Reilly and Limbaugh are politically-centered shows.

NPR is not purely political. It has tons of cultural and entertainment stuff.
