Sounds like good news to me although I though he was beyond this point already. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=1988144 Associated Press HOUSTON -- Houston Astros pitcher Andy Pettitte threw 25 fastballs Wednesday in his first workout on the mound since he had elbow surgery six months ago. "It felt good just to get back on the mound," Pettitte told Houston television station KRIV. "Now I can start getting ready, just building up my arm strength." Pettitte, who spent five minutes on the mound, said he became tired throwing the 25 pitches. He also said it was just a matter of time before he'll be throwing breaking pitches again. "I probably could have done it today, but I am going to take it slow and try to be as cautious as I possibly can." Pettitte underwent surgery during the summer to repair a torn flexor tendon in his pitching elbow. Because of the injury, he appeared in only 15 games and finished 6-4.
Damn, we need this guy...Hope he takes it slow and builds his arm strength up slowly, but in time for Opening Day...
I'll be looking forward to seeing Pettite vs. STL in that first series... we never got a chance to throw him against them at all last year. As far as opening day goes, it probably will be Clemens... but I wouldn't be suprised to see Roy-O.
I believe a while back Phil Garner said Clemens would be his opening day starter if he came back for another year. I'd be somewhat surprised to see anyone else out there this time around.
