Winn also led the N.L. with a .447 (51-114) batting average, a slugging percentage of .877 and 100 total bases and was tied for the league lead with 11 home runs. His 51 hits are the most by a Giants player in a single month for at least the past 30 years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. Winn, a trading deadline acquisition for the Giants, scored 25 runs, hit 12 doubles, two triples and tallied 17 RBI. Over 28 games played he put together a .479 on-base percentage and stole two bases. Randy had 17 multi-hit contests over the month including three four-hit performances. Pettitte was a perfect 4-0 in his six starts throughout the month of September. He posted a 1.86 ERA over 38.2 innings, allowing just 27 hits and four walks to go along with 29 strikeouts. Andy earned his 17th win of the season on September 20th at Pittsburgh, marking his highest win total since 2003. It is the fifth time in his career that he has won 17 games or more. This is Pettitte's fourth career Pitcher of the Month Award and his second this season. Other pitchers receiving votes were Ryan Dempster of the Cubs (0-0, 0.00 ERA, 13 SV); Jon Lieber of the Phillies (4-1, 1.76 ERA, 29 SO), Derrick Turnbow (2-0, 1.64 ERA, 10 SV) and Rick Helling of the Brewers (2-1, 1.69 ERA, 32 SO); Tom Glavine of the Mets (3-2, 1.76 ERA, 34 SO); and Hector Carrasco of the Nationals (2-0, 0.95 ERA, 31 SO). Other players receiving votes this past month were Jimmy Rollins of the Phillies (.402, 3 HR, 16 RBI); Lance Berkman of the Astros (.319, 11 HR, 27 RBI); and Jason Bay of the Pirates (.330, 7 HR, 27 RBI). Rollins ended the season with a 36-game hitting streak intact, which he will carry into next season. Randy Winn and Andy Pettitte will each receive a specially-designed trophy for being voted National League Player and Pitcher of the Month.
