My family just got back from the vet, we had to put our dog 'Max' down. He had really bad arthritis, to the point where even this morning he fell over on the vet's waiting room floor, and couldn't even get up. We'd been pondering the decision for about 6mths now, and today was finally the day. He was a rhodesian ridgeback cross kelpie, and weighed about 36 kilos. We took his body back from the vet, and buried him behind our pool, planting two lime trees over the grave. RIP.
Sorry for your loss. About a year ago, I had to put my pomeranian to sleep after many health problems got too much for me to bear to see him deal with. It was hard since he was like a best friend for me since I was in middle school (I was 25 when I had to put him to sleep last year). He was by my side through highschool, college, getting married and moving into my own house. My wife and I woke up one Saturday and he couldn't hardly see anymore and was running into walls, so we knew it was time. It is tough and I wish you the best. Some people wonder why others get so worked up over pets but, those of us that have had one that close, know they are family.
my condolences. take heart in the fact that he was able to live a long life (arthritis = old, i assume) with a loving family. recently my dog, who is only 3 years young and who we've had since he was born, nearly died from a sudden freak blood disorder. he has slowly but surely recovered, but until you face the possibility of losing them, you don't realize how much they really are a part of your family. as a catholic, i've since learned and been told by a priest that many in the church believe that it is not good to have pets, that you would be better served turning your love/attention/money to help your fellow man instead of wasting it on pets. those that hold these beliefs also maintain that pets do not go to heaven, one reason being that a pet is incapable of taking responsibility for its actions. and my counter is st. francis of assisi, patron saint of animals and the environment. i believe your dog is in a better place. [/straw man rant]
So sorry, man. I'm a HUGE pet person so these threads always break my heart. I'll feed my cat Weezer some tuna tonight in Max's name.
its pretty sad having to put your dog to sleep. my dog angus died about 4 years ago when i was 20 and i drove home to see him one last time before we had to put him to sleep. it was pretty sad when i saw him. they had to clip out a tumor from his nasal passage so he could breathe better and he was bleed from his nose. i was trying very hard not to break down crying there but it was so sad seeing him like that. it still makes me sad to this day thinking about it. i miss him a lot. he was a great dog. sorry for your loss i know how it feels.
My heart is with you. Had to put our 16 y/o Bichon to sleep about 8 months ago - I wept uncontrollably while holding him during the procedure. Time and a new puppy helped heal the pain. We could all learn a lesson from our pets about giving unconditional love D R
I'm sorry man. I am just about in the same position. My dog is 14yrs old and has bad arthritus. She is definetly showing the signs of being old. Seems that she is losing her mind, and her eyesight is about half what it used to be. Her time is coming soon....
I feel for you man, I know what a horrible feeling it is to lose a pet. Try to keep your head up in these difficult times. RIP Max.
