I work as a piano player at Pete's here in Austin and we're opening a club in Houston this Friday. We're trying to spread the word to get things going down there. I'm not going to be working there but I'm pretty excited to have a club in my hometown. I don't have any family down there any more, but I've got a bunch of friends still that I don't get to see nearly enough. I'll hopefully get to come spend a week down there in the next month or so. Anyway, I don't know if any of you have been to a dueling piano bar or if you like it, but I know that most of the people that come out to Pete's here in Austin really like it. I know that there's already a Howl at the Moon, but Pete's is pretty different approach. If you like the dueling piano bars, go check it out this weekend. I could probably get some free passes for anyone that wants to check it out.
I would love some free passes! Gimmie gimmie gimmie! Wheres the location? Anyway to avoid the potential line?
I'll ask my GM here if I can come up with some kind of code or something that would work or get something that can be printed out. I'll check since there's interest. I'll post something later after we close tonight.
I would absolutely like to check it out. Wish I could play well enough for that. But I can only play a handful of tunes (though I can play the entire Maple Leaf Rag).
I've been to the piano bar in Austin - it's a lot of fun. I hope you can get a following here in Houston. Where are you located?
I'd love to check this out. I've heard of Howl and the Moon but have never been there. What is the difference between the two, firecat?
What is a dueling piano bar? Are there 2 robotic pianos which fight each other? Or can regular folks like me go in there and starting jamming?
I have been to the one in Austin, it is a RIOT....Firecat, you guys are really good...the wifey and I love that place. "Do you wanna take your mother to a gang bang?"....great song...very funny. Knock Knock? Who's there? Gladiator Gladiator who? Spoiler Glad he ate her BEFORE he took her to the gang bang.. Good stuff. DD
So does every "bout" end with some cartoon character firing a cannon through the other's piano as long wooden hooks pull both pianists off stage? My knowledge of dueling piano bars consists entirely of what I've seen on Who Framed Roger Rabbit.
Since firecat was slow in explaining, I went to the website. Here ya go: http://www.petesduelingpianobar.com/v2/the_show.php [rquoter]The Show Pete's Dueling Piano Bar is a sing-along, clap-along, drink-along, have-one-helluva-good-time-along bar! One thing we can promise you is that a visit to Pete's will result in a night of extreme singing, clapping, and laughing. If your voice and hands aren't sore the next day, we haven't done our job! Four unique, A-list piano players take the stage each night on two baby grand pianos, in two-person rotations every hour on the hour. All four players even join together on stage multiple times throughout the evening to bring you songs filled with more instruments and more energy. They perform all your favorite hits from every era imaginable. From Elvis to Eminem, Abba to ZZ Top, Neil Diamond to AC/DC, they've got it covered. Other popular selections are Billy Joel, Dave Matthews, Bon Jovi, Sublime, Nickelback, Pat Green, Blink-182, Beastie Boys, Willie Nelson, Elton John, Frank Sinatra, The Beatles, Lenny Kravitz and much, much more. We also have "Showtime" a few times a night, when our waitresses and bar staff take the spotlight on stage to dance, sing, and have a great time with you the audience! For a first-hand account of one generous audience member's experience at Pete's in Austin, click here. We can't wait to see you at Pete's![/rquoter]
There's not a lot of detailed info on that website. What do tickets cost, firecat? Is it just drink, or is food served as well?
I've been to the Pete's in Austin and Addison several times, so this is awesome. Howl is fine, but I like Pete's a little better. It's hard to explain why since they're the same concept, but I'd say Pete's is a little more casual, slightly cheaper and is more interactive. Anyway, I'm a fan, so hook me up with free tickets.
