    On NBA on NBC!
In an interview, Mark Cuban basically commented to Peter that everyone can do their job better. He proceeded to comment that many execs are happy if Peter can have 5-6% of his scoops actually be accurate.
A visibly upset Vescey raised his voice and started trying to throw darts at Mr. Cuban before Ahmad Rashad cut in with his own questions and wrapup.
I'm not a huge fan of either of these guys, but with the a**hole that Peter Vescey is, it was definitely fun to see superfan Cuban make a fool out of him on national TV.

Well, I don't know what your problem is with Mark Cuban. He's a basketball fan that tells it like it is. He backs up what he says. he does not complain about what Stern and the league has done to him. I mean com on, a 100 grand for sitting on the floor where the FREE press and photographers sit!

I guess maybe he's not politically correct. But then neither am I most of the time.

I just happened to catch that little interchange between All BS "the worm" Vecsey and Cuban, and was flabbergasted at how easy Vecsey got all flustered. I loved it. When he came back at Cuban and said: " .... I mean why should we be even interviewing you, why should you be the feature instead of your players ....". Cuban says: " ... No one is holding a gun against your head. You want to talk to them, I'm all for it ... go ahead. But you asked me (he was interrupted then, but I have a feeling he was going to say you asked me to do this, I didn't come to you)."

Cuban is who he is. He loves the game. Loves his team. He doesn't have to take crap from guys like Vecsey. And seemingly can't tolerate a-holes. Let's at least admit that Vecsey is close to the presidency of a-holes.

Aside from making the claim that fans have no real insight in to the game and only repeat what they read, I think the guy is great so far and a terrific owner. Talk about breaking the mold!

You know David Stern is a jackass though. Whenever he needs pocket cash he just fines "MoneyBags" Cuban.

Funny,I thought it was the commentators who punked Mark Cuban.Cuban will be like very many other's with too much money, once the shine wears off being an owner, the Mavs won't be getting Cuban's attention anymore. You guys are like little school girls being wooed by the high school quarter back and instead of seeing his idiocy all you see is his flashiness.Cuban makes me glad we have an owner who does things the right way.Sorry Clutch,of course none of what I said applies to you [IMG]

My opinion of Mark Cuban really improved today because of the way he handled the press.
I had lots of fun seeing Peter Vescey getting all agitated by Cuban's comments.
I think alot of his bad rap comes from the media's often negative portrayal of him, but I do think that he is a cool superfan and it's actually kinda refeshing to see someone so involved with the team that he owns.
You can kinda tell he's a straight shooter and big bucks or not, he seems like a good guy.

Actually Summer Song Giver it could be the opposite way. You see a guy with a lot of money and assume he's an ego maniac and a control freak. I like Cuban. He's fun, energetic, and he doesn't do anything to hurt the game. Yeah he may have said one or two things people disagree with, but doesn't everybody? I like the guy, nobody's "wooing" me.

    DAMN, DAMN, DAMN!!!!!!! [IMG]

The best NBA event of the year so far, and I MISSED IT!!!! [IMG]

I would have LOVED to have seen someone get the best of old "Throw it against the wall..." Vescey for a change. This guy makes me SICK with all his "inside info", and the casual way he shares it. He has absolutely NO sensitivity to player's or their families, and I wish there were a way to shut him down, but this is America.

From now on, Mark Cuban is ALRIGHT WITH ME!!! [IMG]

    GIVE 'EM HELL, MARK!!!

    Pimp, lol.

I have to come out on the pro-Cuban side. I think his enthusiasm is refreshing, in a Pat Croce sort of way. I don't think he always makes the right decisions personell-wise (L8tner, Vaught). But let him spend his $$ and get attention all he wants to. With the cap, the league doesn't have to fear owners like Allen or Cuban buying championships (unlike, say, in baseball).

As someone that lives in Dallas I gotta tell you that Cuban is loved by the vast majority of Mavs fans. Most of us see him as one of us that made it big...really big.

After living with Don Carter and Ross Perot Jr. (the worst owner in the history of sports), we love Cuban.

I thought the most idiotic thing Vescey said in the interview was "I'll put my money up against yours any day". What in the hell was that about?! I'm sure Peter Vescey has a lot of money but come on...Mark Cuban is a multi billionair!

Vescey is an idiot. He is so concerned with his little personal war with Cuban that he completely overlooks what Cuban has done with the Mavericks since he has purchased the the team.

With every negitive article or sports comentary or interview Vescey does about or with Mark Cuban causes him to loose credibility.

    Peter Vescey is a Moron!

I would agree that he's a good owner. I saw a long interview on ESPN last night. He backs up his word. he hasn't complained about the fines and he's acting like any other fan would do. I found him interesting, and he's right, we could all do our jobs better. The question becomes how do we go about it. Maybe his idea was not the best, but he's standing behind it.

The exact quote from Mark Cuban regarding fans' ability to form their own opinions -

"And as far as your reader's perception (in the rants) that players are lazy: fans repeat what they read. Period. End of story. As a long time fan, I couldn't tell the difference between a guy playing hard and a guy taking the night off and I bet you couldn't either. If every story covers a specific angle, and we know most sportswriters repeat the same columns from city to city, what do you expect the fans to say? What they read is their only real insight into the game!"
    http://www.sportstalk.com/nba/confidential/confidential_12-26-00.shtml

Here is another quote from Cuban from the above link that I strongly disagree -
"My suggestion is that if you see a lack of effort, more often, it's not an issue of the players, it's an issue of the organization and the coaches. Maybe they put together the wrong type of team, or they have the wrong coach, or maybe they don't support their players enough."

I think it is the total opposite, the lack of effort from most players are their own fault with few exceptions that are caused by the organization and the coaches. If someone is willing to pay me anywhere from 300K to over 20 M a year to play a game that I love, how much more support do I need? I think the state of NBA will get worse if more owners agree with Cuban that that these players need more pampering. There is a different between an owner willing to spend money to get talent vs. an owner willing to spend any amount of money and telling his players that it is never their fault when they under achieve. Cuban reminds me of an overprotective parent that believes it is never his child's fault.

I still like Cuban a lot more than that idiot Peter Vescey; then again I might just be repeating what I read. [IMG]

Apparently this feud between Mark Cuban and Peter Vescey has been going on for quite a while now. It just showed big time on the NBA on NBC TV interview.
If ya'll have time, just do a search on Yahoo! for +"Peter Vescey" +"Mark Cuban"
and you'll see several interesting articles and links.
These two have a history of animosity for one another.

i dont really like cuban, but stern does fine him too much.

I see nothing wrong with sitting by the trainer instead of 10 feet away from him in his courtside seats.

Personally i think he uses his money too much.

In what way? Because he will not use a lack of money as an excuse for loosing. Because he gives his players (and other employees) the very best in order to attract and keep the best players. Because every time the Devil Stern issues one of his rediculous 250,000 dollar fines Cuban pays it with out blinking and matches the fine with a donation to some needy charity (what other owner or player does that...volentarily?).
