Nothing really earth shattering here, I just like to advertise the stupidity of PETA:

PETA wants 'Soysage' in traditional race

    By Darren Rovell
    ESPN.com

Brat, Polish, Italian and Hot Dog could have some new competition: the "Soysage."

On Thursday, officials from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) faxed a letter to the commissioner's daughter Wendy Selig-Prieb, president and CEO of the Milwaukee Brewers, asking that a fifth sausage -- a veggie dog -- be allowed to compete in the Brewers traditional post sixth-inning race where people dressed in the various meat costumes race from the bullpen to the home plate.

"Since Miller Park recently began selling veggie dogs to cater to the many vegetarians who are part of the Brewers' fan base, it makes sense to include a soy dog in the sausage race," wrote PETA's sports campaign coordinator Dan Shannon in the letter to the club.

Shannon said the team confirmed they had received the letter and the organization is awaiting the team's response. Milwaukee Brewers officials did not immediately return calls seeking comment.

"If given a sporting chance, our lean, mean veggie dog might run rings around those fatty 'brats' in the Sausage Race," Shannon said. "The veggie dog would be a big hit, especially with hip, young baseball fans."

The Soysage, whose costume would consist of a white T-shirt and khakis with a backwards baseball cap, could join PETA's other current mascots including Chris P. Carrot and Colonel Corn

My money's on the Brat. Home field advantage.

I think it would be funny (and a nice slap in the face to PETA), if the Brewers did actually enter the Soysage in the race and had it finish dead last in each race. Just completely make a mockery out of the Soysage each and every race.

    Carnivore for life.

As a vegetarian, I just don't care for PETA, but stuff like this doesn't bother me at all. This gets them in the paper and on ESPN and that is their job just like any other organization.

My issue with them is the stuff they do that is really mean and sick at times. That just pisses me off.

However, I will say that Boca sausages are tremendous. Because it is fairly easy to get the consistency of beef and pork through vegetable means and because sausage seasoning is similar for all brands, it makes a great alternative.

Anyone remember their "drink beer, not milk" campaign they had a couple years ago? They gave away beer openers to college kids. Crazy Marketing that group.

My Dad and his side of the family were vegetarians, and I have a lot of respect for people who can do it, but I think I got the Meat and Potato Gene from my moms side. I love animals and all but I just can't live off vegs alone.

I, like Jeff, am also a vegetarian that doesn't care for PETA... I'm a vegetarian for health reasons, not b/c I'm an animal hugger or anything... I have been asked many times by others if I side with PETA and agree with their outrageous stunts... sigh, to be linked with PETA b/c I dislike meat... :(

I'm a carnivore who only eats veggies to be polite.

    I pretty much loathe peta....

...however, this is really no big deal.....especially when compared to the other antics they've pulled.

I just never really understood the freakish anti-vegetarian stance by people. I guess I can KINDA understand those who believe "meat is murder" being radical in their stance on eating meat even though I don't advocate it nor would I participate in it, but I don't understand why meat eaters get so up in arms over vegetarians.

Since I became a vegetarian, I can't count the number of times I've been acosted by family members, friends and even relative strangers about the lack of meat in my diet. When I explain it is just something I do, they rant on and on about all the reasons why I shouldn't be a vegetarian. What is so damn threatening about NOT doing something?

One of the reasons I dislike PETA is because they use in-your-face tactics to create results. As someone who has seen the strong anti-vegetarian responses from many people close to me, I can attest to the fact that PETA's general tactics won't win friends and influence people who are sided against them. In fact, I would argue that it will simply entrench others further into their disdain for vegetarians and that's bad for everyone.

I think it is for many reasons. It could be because they think it proves their manhood, because they have to justify eating meat in their own mind, also people tend to think if they are doing something (eating meat, going to a particular church, whatever) it must be the right thing for everyone else.

I eat meat, though I eat Soy fake-meats as well (those with spices are not too bad at all). As the latter products get better (they can make a good soy Filet Mignon) I may give up meat entirely. I respect vegetarians, I am not ready to be one though.

The thing that ticks me off the most is when a vegetarian couple forces a kid to be a vegetarian. Oh wait that sounds like my cousin and her husband.
