WOW, now thats an "ethical" bunch of people. Thank God for PETA! You knew it was going to happen ... PETA just couldn't resist. Forget the horrific injuries Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy sustained when he was mauled this past weekend ... [A 7-year-old male white Bengal tiger named Montecore missed the food Roy was proffering, and bit Roy's hand, whereupon Roy fell down, and the Tiger attacked him, which a tiger will do if you are in that position. Roy then hit him on the nose with the microphone to get the tiger off of him. Reports had said that Roy tapped Montecore on the nose after the tiger had disobeyed a "sit" command. The audience thought it was all part of the show.] And forget the fact that Roy was in the critical care unit at the hospital at the time ... People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals went ahead and faxed a letter to Horn's hospital bed, urging Siegfried and Roy to retire their animals and build a sanctuary for them. PETA Vice President Dan Mathews wrote: "The only natural thing that happened on that stage was that this majestic animal lashed out against a captor who was beating him with a microphone because he wouldn't do a trick. "No matter how much you say that you love the wild animals whom you have confined continents away from their natural homes, you are still the men who have subjugated their wills and natures to further your own careers. "Perhaps Friday's frightening incident will make you realize that a brightly lit stage with pounding music and a screaming audience is not the natural habitat for tigers, lions, or any other exotic animals." What are these people thinking? Faxing a letter to Roy’s bedside while he’s in a life-and-death situation? Granted, tigers are wild animals, anything can happen, and Roy certainly knew the risks, but he still deserves his privacy and our sympathy. PETA simply has no shame. http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2003/10/7/125915.shtml
These are the same folks who compared the killing of chickens to the Holocaust. Once and for all, they need to be dismissed as a serious group and revealed for the worthless bunch of human-hating whackjobs they are.
I think they already are, at least in most circles I see. In my 5+ years on this board, I don't believe I've read more than 10 posts supporting PETA.
Yes, they're wackjobs. Yes, their actions in this case are reprehensible. But they're right. Circus's suck.
Exactly, the timing of the letter is ridiculous, and down right evil considering the circumstances, but can you really argue with anything the letter actually had to say?
Yes, PETA is the stupidest group of people ever. No, I will never go to a circus. It's not just the slaved animals but clowns scare the living piss out of me.
If your main argument is that the letter is completely insentitive to Roy Horn and his family, I agree. However, the rest of the information seems reasonably valid. PETA is a really annoying and at times, hypocritical organization though.
I think Dennis Miller Characterized them best When said these are people that would Step over a homeless man to throw paint on someone wearing a Fur. PETA is not high on my list of organizations that are worth a d*mn Rocket River
Cirque du Soleil is great if you are into quirks of nature.... All they do is go around to each town they plan to tour and hire gymnasts and contortionists from that town to perform. I'd rather see them performing on the street and give them the money personally.
Meggo, That is not really correct. Cirque Du Soleil holds open auditions, just like any theater company would before a show goes on tour. The casts doesn't change from city to city. They are a touring company just like Cats or any other type of Broadway musical.
