This drives me nuts!

I was taught that when someone says 'thank you' you say 'you're welcome'. My two-year-old already grasps this concept. And when someone says 'excuse me' trying to get by you or walking in front of you, you say 'excuse me' as well.

So many people these days just say 'uh-huh' in these situations, and I find it extremely rude. It's like instead of reciprocating the politeness, they are doing you a favor.

    Anyone else notice this?

I do "Mhmm, no problem" a lot, and don't think it's rude at all!

I don't think it's a sign of rudeness. It's more along the lines of an extremely shortened version of "sure, no problem" or "yeah, no problem" they just say uh-huh instead.

Similarly, there are two types of responses to "have a nice day."

Some people reciprocate and say something along the lines of "you, too" or "have a nice day."

    Some people just say "thanks."

I either say "you're welcome" or "no problem".

I only say "uh huh" when I'm saying "yes" to a yes/no question.

"youre welcome" has three syllables. "uh huh" has two. "yeah" and "sure" have one.

"youre welcome" is clearly the inferior reply.

Also, if someone says "Excuse me" when they are walking in front of you (while perusing the cereal isle at the grocery store or something), technically you ARE doing them a favor by letting them by you and not beating their face in.

Well if you are saying thank you then they are doing you a favor, right?

This has always bothered me as well. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I too say "You're welcome" or "No Problem."

I've heard some guys say "you got it!" after a thanks... quite weird.

When I was younger I saw this guy open the door for an elderly woman and she said thanks and the guy says "yes ma'am!" That confused the heck out of me.

I'm gonna start saying "yeyuhh!" after a thanks from now.

It bothers me when i say hello, good morning, or hi to someone and they don't say anything back. I simple nod or smile would be ok, but some people don't even do that.

Yesterday,...this lady allowed me into the lane (driving in a car),...and the missy manners honked at me just because I didn't "wave" at her!?!...Most of the time, I do, but I didn't know it was on the level of a misdemeanor or something...

There are about 4 people in my office that won't even acknowledge a "hello".

Example: "Hey, Lisa. How ya doin?"
    Lisa: " "

That's the worst. Would it kill ya to just say 'hi' ?
