This text is from a county emergency manager out in the Western part of Colorado after the recent snow storm.

    WEATHER BULLETIN

Up here in mountainous Colorado we just recovered from a Historic event--- may I even say a "Weather Event" of "Biblical Proportions" --- with a historic blizzard of up to 44" inches of snow and winds to 90 MPH that broke trees in half, knocked down utility poles, stranded hundreds of motorists in lethal snow banks, closed ALL roads, isolated scores of communities and cut power to 10's of thousands.

    FYI:

    George Bush did not come.

    FEMA did nothing.

No one howled for the government.

    No one blamed the government.

No one even uttered an expletiv e on TV.

Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton did not visit.

Our Mayor's did not blame Bush or anyone else.

Our Governor did not blame Bush or anyone else either

CNN, ABC, CBS, FOX, or NBC did not visit - or report on this category 5 snow storm nobody demanded $2,000 debit cards.

No one asked for a FEMA Trailer House.

    No one looted.

Nobody - I mean Nobody demanded the government do something.

Nobody expected the government to do anything either.

No Larry King, No Katie Couric, No Oprah, No Chris Mathews and No Geraldo Rivera

No Sean Penn, No Barbara Striesand, No Hollywood types to be found.

    And

Nope, we just melted the snow for water.

Sen t out caravans of SUV's to pluck people out of snow engulfed cars.

The truck drivers pulled people out of snow banks and didn't ask for a penny.

Local restaurants made food, and the police and fire departments delivered it to the snow bound families.

Families took in the stranded people - total strangers.

We Fired up wood stoves, broke out coal oil lanterns or Coleman lanterns.

We put on an extra layers of clothes because up here it is "Work or Die".

We did not wait for some affirmative action government to get us out of a mess created by being immobilized by a welfare program that trades votes for 'sittin at home' checks.

Even though a Category "5" blizzard of this scale has never fallen this early, we know it can happen and how to deal with it ourselves.

; "In my many travels, I have noticed that once one gets north of about
48 degrees North Latitude, 90% of the world's social problems evaporate."

It does seem that way, at least to me.

I hope this gets passed on..

Maybe SOME people will get the message The world does Not owe you a living.

It's absolutely horrible up there, but Katrina was just on another level. We're talking about an entire major metropolitan city (along with other coastal communities) getting wiped out and millions being displaced. When a natural disaster wipes out the entire city of Denver and floods it in several feet of water, we'll see if you're still humming the same tune.

Will a truck hit me if I don't pass it on?

When the blizzard punches a big hole in a dam and submerges Denver, get back to me. Bad snow storm but does not begin to approach the catastrophe that befell New Orleans. Just an offensive bit that foolishly belittles what happened there.

There is no comparison between a 44 inch blizzard and a Category 5 hurricane.

I would love to meet this county emergency manager to let him know how completely full of sh*t he is.

I agree with you that there is minimal comparisons, but the welfare state
that is New Orleans compounded the matter and made it significantly worse.

So you're comparing people who can't leave their homes and don't have electricity, to people who had their homes and entire city destroyed? NO's infrastructure was reduced to a wasteland overnight.

I talked to my friend in Colorado who is experiencing it first hand. We joke about it because he's buried under snow and I'm in Florida w/ a balmy 80 degrees. He couldn't fly out to visit his parents, hasn't driven, and now opts to walk to his local bar around the corner for the time being.

Have you ever actually considered what it would be like when events happen to you, or do you enjoy watching the downfall of others to throw stones?

That's been around for awhile. I got the same e-mail last year about a snowstorm in Minnessota.

There are people that the government needs, and there are people that need the government. The people in New Orleans who ignored the calls to leave prior to the hurricane are in the second grouping.

comparing these 2 events is utterly ridiculous.

While some of the email is factually inaccurate, as one would suspect with chain emails, the general principles contrasted between the people of New Orleans and those affected by the winter storm are in many respects true. No city has reacted with such a 'gimme gimme gimme' mentality as has New Orleans after Katrina. Do you realize that thousands of refugees are still living in hotels on the government's dime -- not even looking for jobs? It's absurd the way they have tried to abuse the system -- and they've gotten away with it in large part as they hide behind their honeymoon of sympathy.

TJ has poofed from just about every thread he has posted in recently when confronted. I wonder how long he will stick around here. It will be fun to watch.

(prepares for TJ to claim victory in other threads despite having been shown to be factually, conceptually, and in some cases morally wrong)

What?? The system owes the ability to get free rent in Houston,
a Fema card to use at Louis Vuitton and these people are entitled
to years of handouts due to Bush's reaction. He could've swooped
down in Air Force One and forced the Hurricaine away, but his plot
to get Haliburton to fix New Orleans worked as planned!!

Its ok though Rep Jefferson in LA will help, he's raised hundreds of thousands
of dollars in his freezer to help rebuild the city.

The only general principle illustrated by that bogus email is that there is never a shortage of obnoxious assh0les who will take every opportunity kick people when their down because it somehow makes them feel superior. People who fall into the obnoxious assh0le group-

Whoever wrote and sent the original ridiculous email.

Anyone who forwarded it or posted it as some kind of life lesson.

Anyone who defends it as true in principle, if not in fact.

I love the underlying racism. I guess the white people in mississippi didn't need fema either, even though they did. even though they weren't on welfare.

    seriously!

I thought I was the only one who could smell it through their computer.

Typical that TJ would defend it.
