I need to order some personal checks but I don't want to spend a fortune on them, which it seems my bank charges. Anybody have any good sources online to order some cheap, personal checks?
Yes, as long as my utility/cable/credit card companies continue to add "convenience fees" for online or over the phone payments I will continue to dish them checks. I also write a check every month for rent.
pay online anyway, there is nothing worse than the 50-something year old woman at the grocery store who, after 5 minutes of her groceries being bagged and rung up, pulls out the old checkbook and starts writing... I mean, if you refuse to join the 21st century and use a Check Card, at least fill out most of the damn information before you finish checking out. drives me nucking futs
Oh yeah you should just open up a new checking account. Put cash in there to cover monthly expense. I know they always give you like 200 or so free checks when you open the account right>
I THINK I used these guys in the past, but it's been a while (5+ years) as I get free checks at my bank. I don;t know if they are cheap compared to other places, but the service and quality were good. http://www.checksunlimited.com/Introoffer.aspx There are still places where checks are needed.
Places that don't accept online payments (or it is cheaper/easier to use a check, rather than an electronic transfer of funds) that I do business with: Additional Life Insurance Homeowner's Association Charities (where it's also good to have that cancelled check for tax purposes) Boy scouts, girl scouts and other organizations where I buy wreaths, cookies and other stuff Brokerage companies Bowling League Fees Monthly/Quarterly water bill Other places where I have set up electronic auto-pay require a voided check to automatically deduct from a checking account. There are still many reason for me to use checks. I do agree with you about folks in grocery lines (and not to sound sexist, but in my experience, this always seems to be women 40+ years old).
I'm not about to pay $20-30 a month to pay my bills online. Call me cheap or whatever you want but I'm not going to do it when I can write a check and put it in the mail for less than 50 cents. I don't use checks at the store but they don't try to charge me "convenience fees" either.
I don't think my bank charges for checks. Maybe it's my account. I don't know, but I probably write 2 checks per year (for property taxes). I'd look into that. And there are banks that offer free online bill pay, too, I think. If you're having to pay $20-$30/month for it, that's nuts. I'd look at getting another account or go with another bank. http://www.ehow.com/how_2267926_get-free-checks.html (I've never used the above, btw...)
that's understandable. I pay all of my bills online (water, elec, cable, gas, cell, credit card, gym, etc...) and there are no charges other than the actual amount of the bill
I pay my credit card, cable/internet, renters/car insurance, and student loan online every month and don't pay a penny in convenience fees... What do you have that charges you $20-$30 a month?
I don't recommend bill pay. If the bank screws it up, then you're held liable. Some things really don't matter, but you don't want your house/car/CC payment going in late.
