I just flipped through the channels and noticed VH1's Behind the Music special on Ted Nugent was re-running again, and I realized that in terms of characterization by other people, he'd be placed roughly where I am on the political spectrum.

After I cleaned the vomit off my keyboard, I got to thinking: surely, I'm not the only one who's embarassed by other people who are roughly aligned with them (either by your choice or that of such unbiased media as VH1) politically.

So, who most embarasses you? Because I think my characterization would be "cynically pragmatic conservative", I'd have to name Nugent, because I hate his stupid, juvenile music and his flippant, dismissive takes on politics.

I'm not a staunch anti-Immigration person, but I do think we should be more careful who we let in, tighten up the borders/crack down on illegal immigration, and keep better tabs on those who are visiting, so... Pat Buchanan.

Although I don't share his "shut it all down" philosophy on the subject, I share enough of his views on the subject to be considered "in his corner"... That's embarassing.

    Jerry Falwell
    Pat Robertson
Steve Largent (too much Bible thumping)
    Trent Lott (equivocating fool)
James Woods (actor who is just damn weird)
Ted Nugent (I don't really care to see animals killed on film, and then be given a lecture on conservation)

Just out of curiousity, did you just not think of Jesse Jackson, do you not consider yourself aligned with him, or are you not embarrased by him?

I only ask because I think he's actually worse than Sharpton, whom you listed...

IMO, most politicians are embarrassments to their political ideologies. And I don't even think they're bad people. It's just the system that rewards selling-out.

    My current least favorite:

Alan Dershowitz - I hate the way he talks down to whomever he's arguing with, especially since what he says isn't always accurate. He won't even admit he's wrong with confronted with proof. I usually agree with him more than the guy he's arguing against, but he always goes overboard.

I have a friend who swears that he saw Ted Neugent drop acid on stage at a concert in the early 80's. Note that this is also the guy also played guitar on the pro-drug anthem 'Journey to the Center of the Mind', I kinda wonder how much of the guy's act is just an act.

He seems to enjoy in the controversy he causes in a really perverse way.

But I still wish I could make my guitar sound like his does on Stranglehold.

Also, I'm most embarased by politicans who are liberals but don't seem to be able to understand basic concepts of liberalism. IMO, the 60's were the worst thing that could have happened to liberalism, because it made it cool for all the half-wits who are incapeable of a unique thought, as well as people with a misguided and unchecked sense of compassion on a transient shalow level and a lack of belief in cause-effect.

Jesse is an annoyance too, but for some reason Sharpton just gets on my nerves.

If I were a Liberal, I would totally agree. Dershowitz does not argue facts. He takes a position and debates the subject. He is perfectly suited for a courtroom, but is a disaster in the real world debating public policy issues.

A couple of years ago I had an argument with Dershowitz about his role in the Simpson case. I thought he had been the most annoying guy to watch during the Simpson trial.

I kind of caught him in a contradiction and exposed it...I don't remember the details but I remember that he is damn clever. He realized I had him, so he just grinned and shrugged it off. Hmm...I think the argument had to do with whether a lawyer could plead innocent for his client if he knew for a fact that his client had done it...but I really don't remember the details.

Anyway, I agree that the guy is annoying :).

I was mortified when Lyndon Larouche ran in the Democratic primaries for President several years ago.
