Sorry, I have to get this rant out, but I'm pissed Last night I went to see Richard Lewis at the Improv. Man, do I wish had made it out on Friday instead. It's a Sunday night, so there wasn't a big crowd. Sitting on the left side of the stage was this one woman with her husband and another couple that might have been there with them, I'm not sure. During the show, she would talk out loud with her husband and the couple next to her. Then she would react to Richard. Finally, he went over to her to ask what the deal was and he put the mic to her and she said "I'm with you, I'm with you," I guess saying she agrees with what he was talking about. And he tells her she doesn't have to talk out loud to agree with him just laugh and enjoy the show, etc. Anyways, he's talking about Tom Cruise and fundamentalism and going on tangents and makes some jokes about Bush because of the time he said he doesn't like to read and how that must have made Laura feel since she's a Librarian. Apparently, that was offensive to talking lady so she got up and said out loud "I'm leaving, you're in Texas buddy, you're in Texas," and another lady says out loud "I agree, I agree." The crowd gets annoyed and tells them to shut up and clapping for Richard Lewis and finally the lady leaves. For the rest of the show, Richard would look over to the guy who was sitting next to her, I guess he thought it was her husband and apologize. Why the fu** to people think it's okay to talk out loud at a comedy show? And if you are a hard core republican, you should know a new york born jewish comedian is gonna make fun of him. Actually, most comedians make fun of whoever the president is, it's standard and expected. What a b****. We saw her and her husband getting into a corvette as they left. I hope she had an accident on the way back to Cinco Ranch.
Damn, that sucks. I go to comedy clubs alot and have never seen that before. I don't advocate violence against women, but i would have man slapped that b****.
When you're at a comedy club you should check your religion, your color and your politcal views at the door. I think any comedian should be able to joke about any and all of those... hell, that is what makes comedy funny, all of those "taboo" things are fair game.
I bet they were some of the "fillers" that got free tickets and had no idea who he was, but they still should have STFU when at a live show.. People get confused that just because you're so close (phsicaly) to the person doing the show they forget that the person up on stage is a pro and not to talk with durring the set.. I love when people talk durring Jim Gaffigans set, he will stop his set and say in his funny voice "CHIT CHAT.. CHIT CHAT..CHIT CHAT.." over and over again till everyone in the place is looking at the person untill they shut it..
A good comedian should be prepared to deal with situations like that. I remember watching a Robin Williams special, and some lady sitting in the front row started to talk on her cellphone out loud, and Robin Williams started to crack joke after joke on her till she quit.
Yeah - this was outta control during Dave Chappelle's set last week. I mean, how many ****ing times do you have to yell out "Say 'I'm Rick James, b****!" to the man before you realize that he's not gonna do it, & is clearly annoyed with you? I still cannot believe that people paid to go to his set thinking he would really be yeling that out. Where's AB for his input? The thing is these people are not really hecklers - they are just drunken jackasses...
When AB was down here in the valley, he had to deal with a fat loudmouth b**** heckler. All I have to say is she got owned GACHO!!! One of AB's opening acts did bash religion kind of harsh...I don't know if that guy realized that he was going into a very Roman Catholic area...he didn't get any "Boos", but he didn;t get many laughs either.
I saw David Cross in Houston not long after 9/11. About ten minutes into his set he criticized Bush and got booed. He ditched his whole act and spent the next thirty minutes just telling the crowd how stupid they were. I took him out after the show (the woman he was dating then is a good friend of mine) and he sang "Proud to Be an American" in a redneck accent all night.
That reminds me of a scene in the latest episode of "Comedians of Comedy." They've just been asked to leave the Cracker Barrell and are sitting outside in rocking chairs, all four of them rocking back and forth. Patton then adlibs "You know, on a hot day like today, all I feel like doing is respecting other religions." They continued to riff with Posehn getting in a "you know, homosexuals are alright in my book" and Patton coming back with a "the only thing I enjoy more than a cool glass of lemonade is sustainable agriculture." Man, that show may be the best thing going on television right now. It's a shame I'm cancelling my cable to get ready for the LSAT. Oh well, if you do have cable then watch the Comedians of Comedy on Friday nights on Comedy Central.
