Pence knows this is the end. The media firewall also knows this so they’re cutting their losses.
They’d rather have Pence than Trump at this point because Trumps criminal tendencies outweigh the benefit of having him around to push a socially and fiscally conservative agenda. Pence will do the same but not embarrass us, be chummy to foreign adversaries of the US, be antagonistic to our allies, or just commit crimes out in the open.

It's probably in the Democrats' interest to pretend like Pence is innocent in all this. It's in the Republican party's interest as well. Republicans need to have Pence to take the reins if things go badly for Trump. And, to get Trump, Democrats need to leave that lifeline open for the Republicans. But Trump won't "fall small" (to borrow a term from roller derby). If he can tie Pence to himself, he'll have more leverage to maintain discipline among Senate Republicans. Of course, that will mean more electoral risk for those Republicans. If public sentiment turns against Trump but the Senate acquits anyway, some Senators will lose their seats.

True, because if Pence is dirty - then it would look very poliical as Nancy Pelosi is 3rd in line.

Not close - I would take Pelosi as President - though I don't particularly like her - I just think we have to get back to a constitutional government - we are mob run right now.

Why does anyone care what Hunter Pence thinks about all of this? He hasn't even played here in 8 years.

    I'm sorry, what?

Oh, Mike Pence.......and who is that exactly?

I would rather field a team of 12 DMo's, but I just happen to be in her district. :D

    More on topic.

The question is whether or not Pence is a strong candidate for 2020.

Trump won't make it to the end. If he doesn't resign he will be so wounded 2020 will be a disaster for him

I can see Pence having some appeal with the Republican base...definitely the evangelicals. If Fox News gets behind him, I’m sure the rest of the base will come around and he’ll have around the same 35-40% of the country that all Republicans have (the cult hardly ever leave the flock for long).

As far as his appeal to moderates, as long as he doesn’t get too dinged up in this impeachment, he might gain some brownie points from right leaning moderates as he’s about a billion times more presidential than the current idiot-in-charge and will push the conservative agenda.

Question will be if the Dems turn out to vote. As always, if Dems turn out, the Republicans will lose.

Yeah Pence would give evangelicals some cover because they wouldn't have spend so much time rationalizing Trump being such an antithesis of everything they claim is important.

I belive that he also has a higher ceiling than Trump. I think some of Republicans who defected because of Trump might not love Pence but would return with their noses firmly held.

I disagree with you but anything with Jonathan Richmond gets approval from me.
