I hate it when it's been in the fridge than you try to spread it, only for the bread to rip in half. Pantry for the win!

What conquistador#11 said. I actually prefer to nuke mine for 5-7 seconds to soften it then mix it with a little honey. The honey varieties they have out now suck.

Pantry. Peanut butter doesn't belong in a fridge.

I buy this stuff and it says right on it "Stir & Refrigerate." Maybe because it's all natural?

The oil will separate from the peanut butter at room temperature. It is a pain to mix too.

Not really a problem for my peanut butter. I eat Kroger and Great Value Brand. Those generics are good.

the reason to put it in the fridge is to reduce the growth of aflatoxin. it sucks because it rips my bread in half but i'll deal with it.

Yeah, I remember seeing that pile of oil on top of peanut butter when I was younger and thinking it was bad so I wouldn't eat it.

Man, I had some Peanut Butter sitting out on my counter that had been opened/used. It's not even that old at all but, when I went to use it the other day, I opened the lid and it had a funky smell to it. Therefore, I didn't end up using it because of that. So, I put the lid back on and put it back in its place on the counter. I'm curious as to whether it would have made me sick if I ate it. The smell just seemed off to me. I thought Peanut Butter took a long time to go bad.

Maybe I was just being paranoid...but I swear it smelled funky!

It might have been paranoia over it being opened. I'd throw it away though. If you have any pests in your house, you can be sure that they will visit a jar of open peanut butter.

What kind of sick freak would refrigerate peanut butter? That's just wrong!

I like that you put it back. Let someone else have the funky peanut butter. :)

I eat peanut butter so fast that using the fridge is completely unnecessary. Never heard of anyone putting in the fridge in my life until now.

I was going to check with ClutchFans on whether I should eat it or not. :p

It's possible there was a contaminant introduced to the peanut butter that made it bad. But, I always use a separate knife to use peanut butter than the one I use in jelly. You never know...something could have floated in there somehow.

I just had to go by my nose. My nosey not likey.

One tip I have learned through experience is to store the jar in the pantry, but upside-down. Then when you open it it's very easy to stir the oil back in the peanut butter and it is much smoother. I really like the natural stuff and to be honest I never even noticed that it says to refrigerate after opening.

Keep mine in the pantry, and have never seen this oil anyone is talking about.
