I would say that there were about 600 at the rally. Oppositon to the war seems to still be high.

I would classify it as one of the larger demonstrations that I remember going to in Houston in the past 25 years. Not as big as the last demo before the war. I thought that US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee gave an epecially eloquent and effective speech. I forgot what a good speaker she can be. Made me feel proud that she is from Houston.

We may see bigger demos in the future as the war drags on-- especially if Bush wins and has to restart the draft. It seems that they are starting to have problems with some of the troops refusing to go back for a second tour, and more and more of the military families are objecting. There may not be enough new troops to maintain the occupation indefinitely. With other countries pulling out and the Iraqis militia questionable as to whether they will fulfill the occupation objectives, a draft may be coming.

A very nice day with good weather.. My wife and I and a teacher friend had a very good time meeting old friends and hanging out. Afterwards we went out with some other friends who are union organizers that we ran into at the rally.

We went to see "Fog of War", the Oscar winning documentary about McNamara and the theme of war from WW II through the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. It was better than I expected. McNamara came off as a thoughtful guy who is, however, still refusing to take sufficient responsibility for his role in a war, that he claims to have largely been against.

One could see Colin Powell doing a similar piece in years to come.

Well, I'm glad there's one person who feels this way.

glynch I'm not sure I can read your future posts with a straight face after this gem.

texxx: Not that I ever did, but I'm not sure I can take yours or Jorge's seriously after Kerry's Houston appearance where, after all the big talk, as the Chronicle reported: "Promised protests failed to materialize." (poof.)

i strongly suggest all those 'piece' demonstrators to go to north korea, right now!

the time is coming soon for you all to again be the 'human shield' against the brutle colonization of kobrean by U.S.A the ultimate imperilist evil.

and i am sure you'll feel as pround as when you were in iraq last year.
