Has anyone else played this game? I bought it during Steam's holiday sale, and I finally gave it a shot tonight. Only played a couple of hours, but I'm really impressed so far. A very "different" kind of game with some very interesting ideas. Since I am only a few hours in, I admit it might be a bit premature to be praising the game. However, it seems to be getting some decent praise from the few that have played it. Not many reviews for it from what I could find. I did read the Eurogamer review, which was mostly positive I think. I would warn you guys to probably avoid reading it though. Even though he didn't give away any major spoilers, as I read more of the review, he seemed to give some hints that made me wish I hadn't read it. Despite some of his praise, he blasted the game for its difficulty, and I think he didn't end up finishing it. Suppose that might be an issue, but I guess I'll find out (probably not a problem if you prepare early on though). I'll post the only trailer I could find on Youtube, although note that it (and the game of course) is NSFW: Spoiler Hmm...realized I haven't even really described the game itself very much. The Void is basically some sort of place between life and death, and you start off the game there. In The Void, Color is everything. Without it, you will perish. With it, you can bring the dead back to life (of course, that means giving it away). You can collect Color from various plants, trees, creatures, and maybe some other ways (this is all from the first few hours I've played). As you'd expect, Color is actually broken up into multiple different colors, all with different properties (e.g., blue has an effect on time, red on "destruction", etc.). Throughout the game, you collect "glyphs", which are basically Okami-esque designs you can draw onto the screen that will have some effect on the game (e.g., shield, bring trees to life which will give you back color, haste, etc.). There is some combat in the game, but haven't really had a chance to get into that too much. Guessing might be boss fights or something. From a technical standpoint, the game could be better, but the art design seems pretty good. Probably gets better further in the game (the "Brothers" seem cool, but I've yet to encounter one). Apparently there are 13 endings in the game, or something like that. Seems like it would be pretty replayable, although that might depend on how the game opens up further into the game. Really liking the atmospheric music I've heard so far (currently downloading the full soundtrack, along with other goodies, from the developer's website via a torrent...awesome). Overall, it kind of gives me a vibe similar to Okami (mostly with some of the gameplay elements), maybe mixed some "artistic" atmospheric games like Ico or something like that...though it is quite unique in its own right. Steam has it for $20, might be cheaper elsewhere I guess. I can see it being a bit polarizing (some will love it, others will hate it), but I like it when we have developers that try something different. I think there might be a German demo out there in case someone wants to try out the game mechanics. I can try to find it if there is any interest.
Never heard of it, so I did a quick google search. This thread was on the first page so I'm guessing this game isn't getting any traction/attention. Which is strange considering the box art I don't have enough bandwidth to download a demo before I die of old age anyway. Hell . Soo... is it fun?
I think so, at least based on what I've played (again, might become more difficult than fun at some point). The Color system is really nice. Certainly fresh IMO, although the game as a whole might not be fun to everyone though. Kind of like how other "artistic" games are fun at least at some basic level, but people probably don't cite that as the #1 reason to play them. This would be more like Ico than GTA in the gameplay department. For some reason, I thought this had a larger following among some of the hardcore PC gamers. Although the more I look, it looks like a lot of people overlooked it. I'm not surprised (far from it actually...it is a Russian-developed PC game after all), but I only got it during the sale because I saw a lot of people recommending it (and rightfully so IMO...especially at the discounted price).
$5 at Direct2Drive: http://www.direct2drive.com/8688/product/Buy-The-Void-Download Yeah, I think it does get kind of difficult the more you get into the game. Not difficult as in hard battles or anything, but difficult in trying to figure out the best way to manage you resources. To be honest, I sort of gave up and resorted to cheats (fortunately, there are cheats or I might have given up completely on the game). Still really enjoyed it.
