Does anyone use or know of a program that will burn a DVD-compliant MPEG-2 as a DVD? I started with an xvid AVI file, ran it through an encoding program and am now left with an MPEG file, but don't know how to make a DVD out of it.

    Any thoughts?

    TIA.

Nero Burner can burn MPEG2 files into DVDs. You won't be able to make sophisticated menus, but it's workable.

What did you use to convert from avi to mpg?

I use Cucusoft but for some reason my DVD burner isn't recognizing the new DVDs I bought.

I might have overlooked it but I don't think Nero can burn an MPEG as a DVD. It asks for .vob files to put in the Video_TS folder whenever I open it to burn DVDs.

I used TMPGEnc to encode from .avi to .mpeg. It took about 3 hrs for a 40 minute video file but I think it's due to the crappy Celeron processor I have.

Dont know if you mean freeware or not (which I don't know of offhand), but TMPGENC has software that can burn the MPEG onto a DVD also. TMPGENC DVD Author is what its called on my comp, but there can be that chance the newest version is named different.

I havent used it yet though, cuz I use the crappy program that came with my comp. It looks similar to the regular TMPGENC converter layout, but with the features and menu options to burn the converted video onto a DVD disc. Next time I need to make a movie I'll try it out.

I was thinking about Nero Vision Express then. My mistake...

Other programs that fit what you need are:
    DVD X Maker
    TMPGEnc DVD Author

In the future, Avi2dvd can save you the step of converting from MPEG to DVD.
